The biggest seller for us was that we can’t fit normal sectionals in our big living room that has two huge walk ways through it. We wanted a sectional but it wouldn’t work, so this was a great solution. We love it and my kid and I (we are both around 5’6) can both lay lengthwise on mega couch and nap. We tried lovesacs in a store, thought it was reasonably comfy, and liked the modular concept/accessories/customizability. But the quote we got for a configuration we put together in the store seemed just absurd. ($6k+ for a mini sectional with recliner, including 30% "discount", plus tax.)
I don't get it. I went to another store in the same neighborhood that sells fully custom made sofas, built locally, for about the same price or less. Lovesac comfort is good but not exceptional, about the same as our ~$1k sofa we bought from Macy's a few years ago. The recliner seems nifty, but not particularly ergonomic (try out any recliner in a store that specializes in back wellness and you'll know what I mean). The modularity is cool, but seems the resulting mass production of identical base pieces should drive prices down, not up.
So overall it seems they have built a brand that lets them overcharge folks for basic things, sort of like Peloton perhaps. Or am I missing something else?

Mostly because the ability to reformat the couch indefinitely. My sister in law has had hers for 15 years. Fitting perfectly into multiple apartments and three houses. Fitting the space each time they moved. And it’s still good. Fifteen years later. Whereas the leather couch I bought three years ago is about worn through even though we conditioned and cleaned it twice a year.

I thought your 2011 $230 bundle price was mis-remembered, so I looked up a ten year old blog. An advertised on sale movie sac bundle was $649. So I don't know, it is possible, perhaps you got an amazing deal ten years ago? Today, I see movie sac bundles on sale at the Lovesac website from $787 to $1,032. Far from the "$2,000+". So, I would have to reject your premise as at least severely overstated. But to answer your last questions, the company did go thru a bankruptcy, emerged and has grown stronger. Original founder is still the CEO. Stock is doing well. (Maybe too well). Lovesac is not outrageously profitable. With brick and mortar stores, and the quality of their products, they need to be more expensive than their competitors. Are their products worth the extra cost? So far, customers are voting "yes". My family has bought over $20K of sactionals this year. Also bought some outrageously expensive Amish hickory furniture... dining room table, chairs and barstools. Please let me begin this post by saying that this is not a hate post: this post is about being blown away by current prices. 10 years ago I bough a movie sac bundled with a sport cover for 230 dollars. It’s been the best piece of furniture we have ever had and I’m quite happy with it. Today a friend of mine finally moved to a bigger place and asked about my “bean bag, how much she loves it whenever she comes to visit and how she wants to get one” and I kindly told her “it’s not a bean bag it’s a love sac, and I paid around 230 dollars, bear in mind it was 10 years ago it must have gone up in price” a few hours later she replies with “2000 + dollars? Did you buy it used? No way it costs that much and you paid 200 usd” I could not believe her so I visited the page and to my surprise, she was right. What happened? I mean; like I said we love our movie sac but I’m not sure it’s worth 2000+ dollars Is it a different movie sac from the one I bought 10 years ago? Was the company sold and someone revamped it and jacked up the prices? Really curious on why the price difference

Dude, you're absolutely correct. I too bought a movie sac bundle with blanket and foot rest and paid about $220-300. Now that same combo is selling for $1400, what a crock of shit lol. I love my love sac it no way in hell I'd pay more than $500 for all of that today, let alone $1400. America has fucked the average consumer.
