I always recommend older thinkpads. Like the e560 or e570. Something like this Thinkpad E570 is what I am currently using right now. Grab something like a 1tb SSD to give you a little more file storage and you would still only be around 200 dollars. I think they are around 5lbs or so in weight, not terrible in a backpack/ laptop carry case etc. With that you also have the option to upgrade the ram for fairly cheap, I was looking at a 32gb kit ( 2x16gb SODIMMs) for around 40 dollars. The e570 I am currently using was given to my from a previous job at a IT helpdesk. I used it as my main work machine for about a year and a half. multitasking, taking inbound calls, and sshing to hardware at locations we managed all without issues, although it could deff use more ram its not terrible) I think you will have better luck looking around for something in that area from say like ebay. You will most likely spend less money and get a faster machine then buying something new from any of the major brands out there right now. More on reddit.com

The network hardware (usually LAN) in the PC has an option to wake up the device upon package received. Look for it on device manager and then in properties of device on energy options

Hi. This may be a naive question, but here we go.
The Windows 10 end-of-life is on October 14, 2025, a bit less than a month from now. I assume that many devices that aren't eligible for Windows 11 will soon end up on the used market.
Those won't be very good laptops, because those are primarily older devices, but I do have use for such a device.
I don't really have any experience in buying electronics second hand, does anyone have any tips or particular resources?
Does the process just involve going on Ebay and typing in "used laptop" until I see what I want? Or is there some elaborate strategy to doing this?

I assume that many devices that won't be eligible for Windows 11 will soon end up on the used market. I'm not so sure, the kind of person that still uses a very old PC is going to stop using their laptop the day they can stop getting updates. I'm assuming there's a lot of corporate computers, but any good business is going to have switched at least months ago, and the ones that don't probably won't have their stuff wiped and ready to be sold immediately.
