October 22, 2023What is the proper way to connect 1/4" OD copper tubing to valve with compression fitting?
Metal sleeves for metal pipe. The plastic would only be used for PVC pipe/Poly tubing. Hand tighten and then a 1/4~1/2 turn with a wrench and check for leaks. If it leaks, tighten a bit more. Best to have a second wrench on the valve body to prevent it from spinning. More on reddit.com

Trying to fix a sink at my parent's house, The drain pipe is leaking and when I looked at it the 1 1/4 line out of the P trap goes into a 1 3/8 copper pipe in the wall was just connected with caulk. I've purchased a 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 and confirmed that it is NOT 1 1/2. I've called plumbing supply house and they have nothing for this. What's the right way to connect these pipes?

Hack saw might make a smooth cut on larger hard pipe, but you will be a little hard pressed to make a round cut which is what you need, on 1/4" soft copper.
