r/1Password on Reddit: 1Password installing Microsoft Edge?
July 11, 2024 -

I do not have MS Edge installed on my machine. I have never installed it. Yet there are folders with the above names being created immediately after I log in.

I delete the folders. Log in again, and they reappear.

Looking at the contents of the .json files, the reference 1Password.

Is there any reason that 1Password would be automatically installing the folders in the picture? ? I can see folders with these names being created in the "Library" folder immediately after I log in.

Here's the contents of one of the files (note that I do not use Chrome).

file path: ~/Library/Microsoft Edge/NativeMessagingHosts/

filename: com.1password.1password.json

file contents:

{

"name": "com.1password.1password",

"description": "1Password BrowserSupport",

"path": "/Applications/1Password.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/1Password Browser Helper.app/Contents/MacOS/1Password-BrowserSupport",

r/1Password on Reddit: Edge extension not communicating with Windows 1Pwd app
June 15, 2022 -

Bought a new machine, first thing I always do is setup Windows Hello then install 1Password. I downloaded 1Password 8.7.1 and got signed in. Then went to Edge and downloaded the Edge extension (following the link from the 1Pwd website). It asked me to sign into my account. So I've tried to fully uninstall (including removing 1Pwd files in AppData, ProgramData, etc.) 1Password's desktop app and reinstall...and remove the extension, clear all cookies / website data, and re-add the extension. I've tried in a different Edge profile as well. I've also tried to uncheck the option to "connect to 1password browser extension", exit, and relaunch, re-check it...all the things.

Versions:

Edge: 102.0.1245.41

1Password desktop: 8.7.1

1Password extension: 2.3.5

Any ideas?

Note: Windows Hello with TPM is working great, and this computer has an AMD chipset, so there's that at least.

r/1Password on Reddit: Gripe: I'd like to use Microsoft Edge without entering my master password
April 7, 2024 -

The 1Password extension in Microsoft Edge (for macOS) always seems to have an excuse for having me enter my password. Today's is "You're asked to re-enter your password because Microsoft Edge has an update available."

This is really inconvenient...I rely on the biometrics to let me use my password. Great, now I have to totally restart Edge again if I don't want to type that long master password for every site I log into. It'd be fine if it wasn't something that seems to happen every day.

ETA: I appreciate the feedback, but not the random downvote. May the fleas of a thousand camels invade your shorts, anonymous downvoter.

It didn't occur to me to post conditions that were obvious to me but maybe not others.

  • I am using the desktop app.

  • It's not the master password 2 week expiration, the desktop app was unlocking with Touch ID.

  • It seems to be related to two conditions: Edge needs to be updated (but the update notification in Edge doesn't always show) and some random condition where the extension is unhappy for some reason; I didn't capture the error message from that one.

  • I guess one cause of the frustration is that Edge was updated five times in the last week. So it'd be nice if the extension wasn't so picky about that.

r/1Password on Reddit: Edge and Chrome Extension seems to be broken on my 1 Windows PC
November 25, 2022 -

I'm having a problem on my one Windows 11 computer (working on my other Windows 11 PC) on both the Edge and Chrome browser where clicking on the locked 1password autofill icon in any website does not bring up the extension menu for me to type in the password to unlock it. Also, when I manually go to the extension to unlock, it does not seem to be working with Windows native app so I don't get the fingerprint unlock option and I have to unlock with password. I also find that the extension is locker sooner than the set 10 minutes. Something very wrong with the extension that I am struggling to fix. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the extension on both Edge and Chrome and it hasn't fixed it.

Nothing happens when I click on this locked 1password autofill icon

r/1Password on Reddit: SSO and multiple computers with Edge Extension
February 4, 2024 -

Looking to see how other companies with SSO deal with trusting the 1password extension on multiple computers, which has been our biggest hurdle for ensure adoption. We work in a branch environment where an enduser has 10+ computers they can use and can travel to other locations also. We use Azure SSO with 1Password.

Our currently process for onboarding and trusting devices is the following:

Onboarding:

  1. Accept 1Password invite on Computer1.

  2. Setup trust with installed 1password app/extension on Computer1.

  3. Setup trust with phone app

Trusting the extension on new computers:

  1. When logging into a new computer (ie Computer2), the extension auto-installs for the user via Group Policy (the app is already installed for the computer). Sometimes, a very unhelpful "Welcome to 1password in the browser" tab pops up that is a dead-end for anyone who follows the instructions since we use SSO. They get a spot that ask for their master password, which doesn't exist since they are SSO.

  2. We have them close that "welcome" tab, click the 1password extension and select "Sign in with SSO".

  3. User needs to type in our sign-in address (ie mycompany.1password.com) and their email address.

  4. Use their trusted phone to go through the trust process.

Step 1 and Step 3 are pinch point that requires us to hand hold the enduser with information they don't have.

Step 1 - "Welcome" tab - Not sure why this doesn't popup for me when I test but I have screenshots of it popping up.

  • Can this be disabled?

  • A solution would be 1Password adding an SSO sign in option or build a SSO specific extension that expects SSO as the default.

Step 3 - Sign-in Address - (we have to inform users to use "Set Up another Device" from their phone app).

  • I wish we could push enterprise settings out to use a specific "sign-in address" (either via the registry or config file). This would also be helpful for us to adjust settings (ie auto-lock features that we disable since we use SSO)

My current workaround to trust the extension directly is to build a custom URL that includes the sign-in information. I have a MS Edge favorite that goes to a dynamic page with the following link. The email address is required and must be correct or the trust process won't accept the generated code.

onepassword://sso-account/add?email=useremail%40mycompany.com&server=https%3A%2F%2Fmycompany.1password.com%2F

r/1Password on Reddit: Passkey use in Edge seems broken
May 1, 2025 -

I noticed this last night on my personal computer trying to sign into Github — Edge doesn't seem to recognize 1Password as a passkey provider, or 1Password is just not prompting to sign in with a passkey anymore. This morning, I'm seeing the same thing on my work computer trying to sign into a work platform.

Edit: looks to be a known issue, with 1Password's official workaround at this time being to switch to the Chrome store add-on. https://www.1password.community/discussions/1password/passkey-login-no-longer-working-at-all/155423

r/1Password on Reddit: Edge browser extension opens app to sign in
December 22, 2023 -

Every time I open up edge I need to put in the password for the extension to work. But there's a problem. As soon as I get about halfway through typing in my password it automatically pulls up the app on my desktop and asks me to put in my password there instead and I have to start over. Is there any way I can just sign in on the extention? It's not a huge inconvenience or anything it's just a bit annoying and it would be nice to be able to figure it out.

r/1Password on Reddit: Support for Microsoft Edge based on Chromium
September 17, 2016 -

Microsoft has just released their new Microsoft Edge browser (https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/en-us/), based on Chromium, however when installing 1Password from Chrome Web Store, it refuses the connection to 1Password. This is quite a big blocker for me, since I am a heavy user of 1Password. Any ETA on fix?

In the Release Notes I see "We’re excited to share that we’ve updated the release number formatting for the 1Password browser extension!" And indeed if I check the release notes for 1Password in the Browser: https://releases.1password.com/b5x/stable/#changelog It shows the latest version is 8.10.44 instead of 2.27.1 since Sept 3. However both in Firefox and in Edge, I still see 2.27.1 today (Sept 5).

r/1Password on Reddit: One-Time password fail from Edge Browser extension.
January 30, 2019 -

I have had some issues with the One-Time password codes that the browser extension for Edge is generating. The codes are getting denied by some the websites as invalid. Yes, I even wait for the 30 second timer to give me a new code in the Edge extension and it still fails. When this happens, I can open the 1Password iOS app (or iPad app) and use the code generated there and it works.

I have also noticed that the codes in the Edge browser ext. are different than the iOS and iPad apps (which both show the same code at the same time). This may be the issue but, how can I get the codes to work correctly in the browser extension when it and the iOS app all use the same 2FA token to generate the codes?
