It is running Windows 11 Pro 22H2 (OS Build is 22621.819) There is no major issue with my laptop or its LCD screen, and the hardware works fine. Hi. I have a dell vostro 14 3468, BIOS version 2.3.0 and it has completely broken screen and case, luckily the motherboard still works normally.

I planned to turn it into a mini pc for home use, so I removed everything, only kept the motherboard, ram, ssd, then connected it to the monitor with an HDMI cable.

However, the indicator light flashes 2 times amber and 7 times white, it indicates a screen error and only works normally when connecting the device's screen via LCD cable.

Is there any way I can ditch the built-in monitor and use an external monitor via HDMI cable?

I dont know what u did if u fixed it, i have the same issue if lcd cable is connected to board it does work on another screen, but i wanted to try to find a way to bypass post with brocken screen disconnected

The 2,7 Error Code is LCD Failure, as you don't have the laptop screen plugged in.

Hello,

I have a Dell Vostro 5320 laptop that I purchased in the UK. It has an i5-1240P processor, 16 GB of DDR5 RAM, a 1920x1200 LCD panel. It is running Windows 11 Pro 22H2 (OS Build is 22621.819)

There is no major issue with my laptop or its LCD screen, and the hardware works fine. However, I still see the "2 Amber and 7 White LED" flashing pattern on the charging LED indicator every now and then. This happens despite the LCD functioning perfectly fine. When I Googled the meaning of this LED error pattern, the information I got was that this indicates a faulty/non-functioning LCD panel. And all the posts I found online mention that the LCD panel is not working or turning on. But my LCD panel works fine though. I also noticed that this flashing LED pattern clears up after I shut down and turn on the laptop (i.e. do a complete power cycle rather than simply restarting it).

Is there some issue with my laptop that needs to be addressed or can I ignore this flashing LED pattern?

The only issue I have noticed with the display seems to be a software/graphics driver issue in Windows 11 rather than any hardware issue. I noticed that after using my laptop for sometime (over the course of several days, after hibernating and resuming etc) dragging and moving windows in the OS only shows a rectangular outline of the window rather than showing the contents. And the maximise/minimise animation of the windows does not show. This makes it look like something turned off several features in the graphics settings on Windows. And the issue resolves itself after restarting the laptop. Note that this happens on both external monitors and on the built-in LCD display. And this is definitely a software issue and not related to the flashing LED light error code.

To run the diagnostics, restart the machine and press and hold F12 when the Dell logo appears. A menu should appear. You should select the diagnostics option on it to run the diagnostics. If nothing is found to be faulty, you can probably continue to use the machine but be more wary if the lights continue. If the frequency of the problem increases, it's best to run the diagnostics again. As you get towards the end of your warranty period, re-assess whether you want to send the machine back for Dell to examine/service it. Once the warranty expires, fixing the problem could become, err, difficult. As for the software/visual glitching, I'm not sure what's causing that and whether it's related to your amber/white light display. Maybe others have an idea as to what's going on? HTH.

What sort of battery life do you get out of this machine? The P series processor makes this very tempting but I do worry about its battery consumption

We are a repair shop having the same problem today during a a screen replacement job for a Inspiron 15' 7559. Device came in not powering on, I thought it was battery flat so I just proceeded without testing to put the new screen on. After putting the new one on it I found it was still not powering on, it stuck at a black screen and LED blinking 2 amber then 7 white as described in the heading. Therefore I put back the old screen but it was the same black screen. After some play around and switching the old & new screens, pull and putting the connector back and secure it with tape etc etc. In one of the million times I made it to boot into Windows normally, everything went fine so I put everything back with the screen on and shut down the machine. I tried to run a last test before calling the customer in, found it came back stuck at black screen again. I touched nothing at all and the machine shut down like normal, no flickering no nothing. I followed instruction found on some other threads here to long press D then power on, it ran on a self test. So I did with the old screen on, nothing happens. Then with new screen on, I could see the screen have slight color changes this time but without any back light at all. Putting the old screen back on again, this time backlight lit up but screen was badly cracked so I couldn't see anything, and after just a hard power off, it came back to the black screen again. SOOOOOOO frustrated! After looking up the fault code, the LED blink shall point to LCD problem. However the tests result switching between the old & new screens was kinda on & off, there was no solid conclusion of whats wrong also I couldn't make another successful boot into Windows. In one of the long press D self tests the new screen has lit up and it could run thru the entire self test with different solid color screens but it just wont boot into Windows, and I could not make another self test run with backlight on. I started playing around with the LCD cable, cleaned the socket and connector with alcohol and tried again, same black screen. Then I have gently twisted the cable and putting the old screen on. It booted again! So this time I have hooked up an external monitor and did the BIOS update immediately. After the BIOS update I put on the new screen very carefully and now it boots every time now. Customer has picked up the machine and both of us are happy now ;) Conclusion: I really dont know if it was the cable or BIOS update did the magic for me but I will suggest to first update the BIOS first if you are experiencing this during a LCD repair. If nothing has been replaced and it happen suddenly. The LCD cable will lead to this therefore try pulling the bezel around the LCD, unscrew the 4 screws and take the LCD out. Carefully lift the tape and use the little 'handle' to gently slide the connector out of the socket in opposite direction of the tape, then putting it back carefully. Do not touch the connector, do not bent or pull the cable by force, it is not that fragile but it only take 1 hit to kill it if you do it improperly. Good luck!

I bought my g15 3 years ago and its screen broken about 1 month ago, the manifests as flickering patterns on the screen. I asked help with the official service centers and cost about 230$ for a new one. I thought that was all cz I always take good care of my computer. when I end a large game I always shutdown after it cool down, but yesterday I found that booting time is longer than before, and the screen turned off by itself. I have to press the power button twice then it lights up. But today noon my PC completely stop working. When I tried to boot there's no logo on screen. no logo, no bios, nothyat all. but the keyboard light and the fans working, and I can heard the sound of chime. The I found the LED lights shows 7 whites 2 amber. i went the service center again and they told me that not the problem of the screen but the motherboard. They can try to repair it, otherwise the only way is install a new motherboard. Oh Jesus it may cost me 200$ or even more again. I googled and finds plenty of same faults like 7 white 2 amber. This clearly isn't an isolated case anymore. Is this some kind of design flaw?

Hi guys, I had a quick question that was giving me quite a bit of headache recently.

So, my XPS 15 is hooked up to an external monitor (stays hooked up to most of the time unless I need to take it out).

However, whenever I start up my XPS, the backlight keyboard turns on, but my screen on the XPS 15 stays black and then I see all my startup information and sign in information on my external monitor. All the while the front led is blinking 2 amber flashes and 7 white ones. I've tried to turn on my XPS without connecting the external monitor but then I see nothing at all, it stays black and the front LED continues to blink. I've searched the front LED codes and it seems to be an LCD failure but I m not sure how to exactly fix this.

It's very frustrating, because it seemed to have fixed itself a while back, but now it's happening again :(

Any help is appreciated, thanks!!
