For shut-off valves, do you prefer compression or SharkBite connections?
Is using a SharkBite ball valve as the main water cut off valve to home a good idea?
They are rated to 200 psi, it will hold. However they have a rubber o-ring inside, which has a 20-25 year lifespan.
I would never use a shark bite inside a closed wall, or on something that critical.

I understand that quarter-turn ball valves are preferred over gate valves.
Within the ball valve category, you then have to pick between a compression vs. a push-to-connect fitting.
Here's an example of these two options for a toilet shut-off valve (Home Depot links):
BrassCraft 1/2 in. Nominal Compression Inlet x 3/8 in. O.D. Compression Outlet 1/4-Turn Angle Valve ($8.97)
SharkBite 1/2 in. Chrome-Plated Brass Push-to-Connect x 3/8 in. O.D. Compression Quarter-Turn Angle Stop Valve ($9.72)
The prices are pretty much the same, so I am inquiring about the product itself.
(If it matters, I am replacing a toilet's gate shut-off valve that uses a compression connection. It is on a 1/2'' copper pipe.)
Thanks!
