I currently use 2 8 gen but the are both high processor. I use one for playing FM24 game and the other for general use. I find the perfectly ok for me and I even edit photos, play vids etc no problem. I think for around £100 you can't go wrong. But I stress you need the top end CPUs and I would buget £50 extra for adding a SSD. My aim would be to get a one owner with nothing added to the basic model then add the SSD and perhaps extra ram. Make sure you check the hinges out. Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

8th Generation Laptops: What You Need to Know - PSERO LAPTOP
March 30, 2025 - 8th Gen laptops are still reliable and capable for general computing, office work, and light gaming. If you’re looking for an affordable, well-performing laptop, it’s still a good option. However, if you want cutting-edge performance, consider newer generations (10th to 13th Gen Intel or AMD Ryzen 5000/7000 series).

r/computers on Reddit: Should I buy a Laptop with 8th gen intel processor?
March 29, 2025 -

I'm in a tight budget and looking for a previously owned laptop to buy. But all I find within my budget range are 8th gen laptops, such as lenovo.

I will need to use python, r and other statistical and data visualisation tools along with ocational light gaming (COD MW2/Devil may cry).

What I'm concerned about is the durability of the processor and want to know if this proessor is going to support me for at least next couple of years. Can you guys share your opinion?

July 18, 2023 -

It seems like there's a glut of 8th gen Intel laptops. If you're looking for something refurbished or late model, you can find a few 12th gen, rare 9th to 11th gen, and then a bunch of 8th gen. I know it's the first gen to support W11 but good chance the laptop won't support it for other reasons. It's not like they're necessarily worthless but why so many? Were they overproduced? Are they junk nobody wanted? Are all the repair parts being sold off and in a while it will look the same with 9th gen?

Answer (1 of 2): Not really. You’re a business, not a home user. You have other concerns than just performance. You want your laptop covered by warranty, that way if it breaks you’re covered. I know, the cost difference is pretty big.. but that warranty means you dont have to buy it twice ...

Question - i5 8th gen for 2024 and beyond? | Tom's Hardware Forum
June 15, 2024 - Worst case scenario the next-gen Windows will release and his 8th-gen CPU will not support it; however, his school requiring such is highly unlikely. ... And worst case, you can load Linux Mint on it. You can find alternatives for a lot of apps you'd use on Windows, if the actual app doesn't have a Linux version. ... For the applications you mentioned: the answer is yes, it’s still viable. SPSS can run on a potato. Perhaps the more important consideration is the age of the battery (8365U is laptop spec), which likely needs replacement.
