We have heating blankets you plug into the wall. But there's no cooling blanket. Does the technology not exist? I want a blanket that actually gets cold, without having to use an iced water bottle that can explode and ruin the bed or couch and only cools a 1x1 foot area anyway. I want a giant cooling blanket so I can feel like I'm in a deep freeze. Background: I'm a hot sleeper.
Edit: I have Google'd it many times and the "cooling blankets" are a scam. They all say "breathable fabric". So there's nothing in them that actually drop the temperature of the blanket itself. My complaint about these shady advertised blankets is they don't cooling you off any more than sleeping without any covers.

Generally, anything that cools generates heat (second law of thermodynamics), which is why air conditioners vent to the outside. So, the blanket would need an external vent. If you live in a dry climate, you MIGHT be able to use evaporative cooling to create such a blanket, but it's dicey

They have. Doctors sometimes use blankets that are woven with tubes that ice water is pumped through. However, you cannot "make cold," you can only remove heat. No device that doesn't move the heat elsewhere (like cold water flowing) is going to work.

RT, when we lived in an apartment, I don't think we could have done it without air conditioning. We were on the southwest corner of the building and it was incredibly hot. It didn't help that we had ceiling vents and that the AC was a heat pump. The apartment never cooled off very well. When we moved here, did use our AC that first summer. But the electric bill went through the roof! All of our energy upgrades to the house have really paid off. So, little things like this cooling blanket are the icing on the comfort cake.
