TLDR: quit Prime, you don't need it and it's probably not even worth it.
I quit Amazon Prime a month ago (after having it for over a decade) due to Bezos/Amazon's actions regarding this administration/WaPo/in general.
I haven't missed Prime at all. I easily find local or niche online stores to buy things. A lot of them have free shipping, too.
Even if your concern is just having it for something like Christmas or an upcoming event- you can just subscribe to Prime later for the single month you need it, then cancel again. You don't need to be paying them so much every year.
If you consider the high price of an annual membership, it might not even make financial sense to keep using it. I actually had to buy something on Amazon after canceling, and once I passed a certain $ threshold the shipping was free anyways, without Prime.
You may have it stuck in your head that Amazon Prime is some essential membership, something you must always have. It's not. Vast majority of you reading this could go and unsubscribe right now and not even miss it.
Call them on the phone or chat with an agent (not AI) and cancel your prime that way. I canceled my prime a couple of weeks ago, and it did cancel, but it didn't. So I used the chat to cancel it, and they are bending over backwards to keep Prime members. They offered me $15 to keep it, I declined. They offered me $15.00 and a free month of Prime if I would keep it. I declined. They asked what they could do to keep me as a customer, I told them nothing. I honestly don't even want their stupid $15.00 or a free month of Prime. I had to ask politely x5 for them to cancel it.
It would appear they have a lot of people canceling prime. So if you want to cancel, go ahead, but talk to a live person vs AI and bleed the phuckers dry!
Sorry, I am annoyed with them for a variety of reasons right now. The main reason is that I ordered an item 10 days ago, and it hasn't even shipped. I asked the human (when I finally got to one) when it would be shipped, and he didn't know. I asked to cancel the order, and he came back claiming, "OH! Good news, it's going to be ready to ship soon!" Where 2 minutes earlier, he had no clue. BTW... Amazon claims it is IN STOCK. (So send it, damnit!)
I finally asked to talk to anyone else and got the real info. The item *I* ordered is not at the fulfillment center close to me. I said I don't care! Ship it from where it is! He said it would take longer. IT'S BEEN 10 DAYS NOW!! And still hasn't shipped. It was never going to ship.
Just for the record, I think I returned one item about 4/5 years ago because it did not work. So, no scamming on my part. I order monthly and just pay for it and forget it. I'm over it.
If I do not plan to use Amazon anymore, is there any reason not to close my account?
