I would like people's opinion on the amex checking account, now that it is offering 1% annual interest and a limited 250$ bonus for opening a new account with ≥500$ direct deposit till December 10.

It’s fine, don’t use as my primary but has potential. There’s no downside to opening one and getting the sub, you can just leave $5 in it and it won’t close. I do use the HYSA and i can imagine it becoming a better option in the future

Just got the mail stating that I'm going to receive my SUB in a few weeks. This email came in after my first direct deposit (from employer) was completed. EDIT: 22 hours after posting this reply, the SUB got credited to my account.

Well you’re at the Mercy of AMEX, keep your fingers crossed...if not I would still work with what I have available to me. Either way I strongly recommend you pay down( off ) your balances with the other creditors. Bringing your total credit utilization down to 7-10% overall and 7-10% utilization per card ...this will help to get you back on track and get your score moving upward again... of course the negatives you recently got aren’t just going away and obviously affects your score but going forward it’s about putting positivity back on. Over time the recent negative effects will wane and won’t matter much...good luck
