Moved in with my bf last year, and have been experimenting since then, but I’m always feeling like something is not quite right. He had the vintage rug that I love, and we bought the couch but I second guess it everyday. We’re artist types so spend a lot of time at home, and this is kind of the catch all office as well, but I feel distracted/unsatisfied with the space. Any suggestions would be appreciated! I’ve thought of -getting a bigger media console -replacing the two stacked side tables by the windows with an actual arm chair/reading book (it’s dead space my cat just uses now) -making the wall by the keyboard more interesting/adding some shelves
I need help rearranging the furniture in my living room so that it doesn't feel so cramped. In the current layout, the area around the dining table feels so cramped that I never sit there. The desk also takes up a disproportionate amount of space based on how much time I spend there.
My ideal layout would involve a dining table with room to move around it and a desk that is not against a wall.
Here are a few important points that I could not show on the diagram:
-
I rent the apartment so I cannot make major changes. The A/C units cannot be moved.
-
I can buy / sell pieces of furniture to create new possibilities.
-
There are blinds installed but they're a pain to open and close. I can't replace them unfortunately.
-
I prefer not to move the desk to the bedroom.
-
The kitchen is tiny with no room for a table.
-
I would like to comfortably seat at least two but ideally four people at the dining table.
Here are some things I've thought about:
-
I've thought about putting the desk against the windows on the left / top left but those windows face east and south. I think the sunlight on the monitors would be too much.
-
One idea I have is to repurpose the "Dining table" as a desk. I don't know where the desk could go while leaving room for a dining table.
-
I've thought about rotating the desk and putting it against the couch but I need advice to know if this would disrupt the visual flow of the room. I would also need to get a smaller bookshelf to create space for that.
-
I used to have a smaller, round table where the current "Dining table" is.
I am open to all ideas!! Btw the 3rd image is flipped bc that's how my apartment layout actually is! Thank you!
