Apple Is Giving Design A Bad Name: For years, Apple followed user-centered design principles. Then something went wrong.
Apple's recent UI with the "flat" UI, the removal of a button look for buttons, the over-reliance on distracting animations that can't be turned off, the ultra skinny fonts, the glaring color scheme on all white, the over use of simplification, completely, completely, completely fucking sucks and the Apple designers don't know it sucks and don't know why it sucks. Ive is taking design principles from designing the hardware shapes and applying them to UI. This. Doesn't. Work. And Ive has no idea that it doesn't work, and has no idea why it doesn't work. Compare the last well designed Mac OS (10.6.8) with anything that came after it and every single design is harder to use, harder to visually understand and more irritating to the user. The iOS color schemes, the glaring color schemes, the skinny fonts all suck and are blatant cases of what not to do to a UI and Apple has no idea just how bad their past 3+ years of UI are. It's sad and shameful. Minimalism SUCKS ASS when it comes to UI design. It works great for the hardware design (Industrial Design), but those principles don't fucking apply to UI design and Apple's powers that be don't even know this. More on reddit.com

Why is Google Material regarded as the best design principle when iOS/Apple's flat design is known to be more user friendly?

Blindly following Apple's design guidelines
"well Apple does it this way and Android really isn't known for its UX so..." I'd point out that this mentality is the reason why UX on Android is all over the place. I'd then gently remind them that: Android is the biggest platform by a huge margin They lack empathy with users that do not use the same platform as them, and hence Fundamentally should not be working with UX, which is fundamentally about empathy. This might not be the most productive approach, however. An approach that is more likely to achieve your goals of providing good UX on Android would be to: Become an expert on the particulars of how Android apps "should" behave Push for a design system that does not break any expected Android behaviours Work tightly with your designers to ensure that their designs can be correctly expressed using the Android design system This is not an easy problem to solve, unfortunately. I wish you luck. More on reddit.com

The 6 pillars of Steve Jobs' design philosophy.

Actually, he just embodied Dieter Rams' ten principles of good design. That took a lot of courage and determination but the resulting objects were insanely good on a lot of dimensions, from the iconic status to ecology.

The Five Design Principles Steve Jobs Lived By - Issuu
His principle of simplicity is to base designs on principles that people already understand. A key example of this is the use of physical gestures. By focusing on simplicity with design, you can achieve not only usability but sophistication too. One of the significant successes of Apple designs is their usability and desire to help people.
