Does Apple charge restocking fees?
No. Be careful with what you read online because there are lots of rumors about this. Some people mistakenly claim that Apple charges a 25% open-box fee and a 15% restocking fee on closed-box returns. That rumor is not entirely false — but it’s only true if you live in Singapore. In the U.S., Apple does not charge restocking fees for open-box returns.

Apple Return Policy: Everything You Need to Know to Make Returns ...
How long until I get my refund from Apple?
It all depends on how you paid. If you paid with a debit or credit card, it’ll take up to 5 business days to get your refund. Any delay after that is likely because of your bank’s policies — not Apple’s. If you made your purchase with cash, you’ll get the cash back right then and there. At least most of the time. If you paid $750 or more in cash, you’ll have to wait 10 days for a check to arrive in the mail. (The same rule applies if you made your purchase with a check.) Did you pay with Apple Pay? Your refund will be initiated immediately, but it may take up to 48 hours to see that reflected

Will Apple cancel my wireless service when I return my iPhone?
No. Apple and your cell phone provider are two separate entities, and Apple isn’t responsible for canceling or moving your cell service when you return an iPhone. You are. Every wireless carrier has a different service cancellation policy. You’ll need to contact your wireless service provider to ensure you’re also closing the wireless service plan that accompanied your device. TIP: This policy also applies to Apple Watches and iPads that are linked to a cell provider.

r/apple on Reddit: Help me /r/apple. You're my only hope
May 4, 2017 -

So, I'm an idiot. This is 100% my fault.

Apple stopped making 64gb Iphones for the Iphone 7. My previous model was a iphone 6, 64gb. I now have a 32gb Iphone7.

Typically, I don't use that much space, before I had "unlimited" (since I didn't come close to filling it) space, I would pull everything off every week. Once I got the bigger phone, I didn't worry about it.

Well, I went and got a new phone, and my Iphone6 backup is too big. I've spent the whole day driving to the Apple store and 4 other phone places trying to find a place that would let me put my Iphone 6 backup on a test phone, then delete all my photos/videos (they're all on my laptop) then re-do the backup and put it on my iphone 7.

Apple care TOLD me that the apple store would do this, the guy only tried to sell me a 128gb phone and couldn't/wouldn't do anything else. All the phone places didn't have a 64gb phone to even use.

Anyone have any suggestions? In reality, I only want my contacts which for whatever reason aren't updated/saved to the cloud. I got what was there, as well as my gmail contacts, but I'm missing about 25 contacts and have old info for about 15.

It would be nice to have the whole backup, but I'm really only concerned with contacts. Anyone have a suggestion?

r/VisionPro on Reddit: Should Apple have implemented a restock fee for opened VP ?
January 22, 2024 -

My understanding is that Apple doesn't have restock fees for any of their products, even if opened and used, as long as they returned in like-new condition within 14 days - Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My question here is - did Apple make a mistake by not implementing a minor, but painful-enough, restock fee of say 5%, to dissuade the many people that are buying them with no intention of keeping them ?

I think the product looks amazing and will be a huge success, but I've got to think their return numbers around day 13 are going to be (relatively) huge - like 20 thousand plus. (Returns will likely continue at a much lower % once the initial must-try-it people are done, but the return rate of people who ordered on day 1 are likely to be higher than normal, I bet)

It will be interesting to see how quickly Apple starts selling them as 'certified' or whatever they call it.

March 13, 2023 -

The new 2023 model is open box in "excellent condition" near me for $1760 - so, basically $200 off retail (I could get it brand new @ Costco for $1949).

I'm wondering if $200 in savings is worth the gamble that no damage was done to it. I feel like most likely it was a customer return that may not have even gotten much usage, but just curious if anyone had any input or opinions on whether it's worth the gamble for that amount of savings, or if I should just buy it new from Costco?
