just wanted to know if the pencil alone is a big upgrade cuz I'm getting an iPad air, just don't know if the pencil makes it worth getting the m2 rather than the m1. The price diff between the two is like 100 usd, and the pencil pro is 40 usd more (in my country)

P.S; ik the camera position is different too, but that isn't really a deciding factor, maybe just a nice add on if I get the m2 imo

Jumping on one year later. I had a similar debate about upgrading my Gen 4 iPad Air, which I use for a lot of things, including art. In my case, I was debating between grabbing the new M3 (which would require me to get a new Apple Pencil Pro), or buying a refurbished M1. I ended up going with the M3 because it was on sale AND i really wanted a 13-inch model for when I'm drawing or reading graphic novels. For anyone who is wondering, the new pencil is "nice" but not necessarily a huge upgrade. I do like the squeeze function, which I think works much better than the double-tap from the Pencil 2. I also like the ability to do the barrel roll with my pen, which helps with certain brushes. For anyone deciding on a new iPad today, I would suggest you think about what you plan to use the iPad for. The M3 processor is better than the M1 but perhaps not to an extent that might make a big difference. The Apple Pencil Pro has some nice extra features for drawing AND it's nice to have the option for a larger screen which you can't get with the M1 iPads. So, all in all, upgrading to an M2 or M3 iPad is worth it for certain people. Now, if you are debating between base iPad (11 inch) or an iPad Air 11 inch, I would suggest you still go for the iPad Air if Art or hardware is important to you. The base iPad is stuck with the Apple Pencil USB C which is much more limited for the purpose of digital art. It lacks pressure sensitivity, wireless charging, squeeze, roll, and haptic feedback. The base iPad also has 6GB of RAM instead of 8GB, which does make a difference in Art programs. The Apple Pencil USB C is WORSE than the Apple Pencil 2 in some important ways. I can't really speak to the difference you will see in the M3 chip compared to the A16. The M3 is much better on paper but I'm not sure how much of that translates to the apps (I've heard it makes a difference for some 3D workflows and games but I haven't compared them myself). The bottom line is that, if you care about digital art, an iPad Air (M2 or M3), it may be worth the extra money if you have it. You can still make lovely art on a base iPad but you are missing out in certain areas that are important to artists (and possibly gamers). P.S. Also, someone is going to claim that the iPad Pro is better for art thanks to the 120hz screen. This is WRONG. 120hz can be nice for games but it doens't do a whole lot for drawing. You will notice that even Professional Pen Displays that cost thousands are still only 60hz. The tech community keeps pretending that 120hz is somehow revolutionary for art but actual professionals know that's simply not true.
