Series 7 GPS only? What does this mean for runners?
The series 7, just like the previous models, will have an option for GPS only or Cellular connectivity. The gps only model will still track your location as you run and if you preload music you can listen to it, but you will not be able to get texts or phone calls unless you are connected to Wi-Fi (or in range of your phone) If you get the cellular model you can track your run and get map data, stream music, make/receive calls and texts and even use some standalone apps that require connectivity. Keep in mind, many carriers will charge you a monthly fee of 5-10 bucks for adding your cellular Watch to your plan if you go that route. FWIW, i think having cellular on the watch is awesome. I love going for a run with nothing but my watch and AirPods… when I get home I can buzz myself in my gate and even unlock the front door. No keys or phone - it’s awesome! More on reddit.com

Hi All,
Long-time Apple user, first time thinking about a watch due to health features.
I have been unable to find online any information regarding the connectivity available.
I see previous models advertised 3G/4G but the new, 7 series, only advertises GPS on the product page- unless (forgive me) I am missing something.
Basically, I would like to leave the house for a 10km run, use Garmin/Strava/apple fitness app, use Spotify and stay connected for important text/calls.
Can someone tell me if this is possible with the new iteration?

The series 7, just like the previous models, will have an option for GPS only or Cellular connectivity. The gps only model will still track your location as you run and if you preload music you can listen to it, but you will not be able to get texts or phone calls unless you are connected to Wi-Fi (or in range of your phone) If you get the cellular model you can track your run and get map data, stream music, make/receive calls and texts and even use some standalone apps that require connectivity. Keep in mind, many carriers will charge you a monthly fee of 5-10 bucks for adding your cellular Watch to your plan if you go that route. FWIW, i think having cellular on the watch is awesome. I love going for a run with nothing but my watch and AirPods… when I get home I can buzz myself in my gate and even unlock the front door. No keys or phone - it’s awesome!

What country are you looking in? Cellular models may not be available where you live, because they’ve been available since the series 3.

It seems like most people who already have an AW are unimpressed by this update, but as somebody who is getting a series 7 as their first smart watch, can I just say I’m hype as hell for the fast charging and no bezels? I don’t even mind the colors that much, I went with midnight and I think it looks great
