Kind of. If you know what you're doing, then not really. The rifle is designed to mitigate a fair bit of recoil. Combine that with the buffer tube, a smaller caliber, and most of the weight is usually forward of the pistol grip, it doesnt kick much. So while I personally wouldn't go firing it against my nuts to prove anything, it is fairly minimal and controls recoil.

r/Referees on Reddit: AR flag signal for goal kick
May 24, 2023 -
If I'm an AR, staying with the second-last defender who's playing a high line, and the ball goes out of play for an obvious goal kick, what should be my correct move?
Do I make the goal kick signal from my current position, which is close to the halfway line? Or do I sprint to the goal line and then make the signal? I would assume the former looks unprofessional while the latter looks excessive?
Thank you everyone. Long live this subreddit!
EDIT: Thanks for the helpful answer so far! Would the same answers apply to a corner kick?

You should be following the ball - it defines the offside line if it's past the 2TLD, and you need to be back to judge potential non-obvious balls that are/aren't across the goal line. Which means you shouldn't be that far from the ball when it goes out. You shouldn't still be at the halfway line at that point. That being said, if the ball does go out, I signal from my current position, I don't keep jogging all the way to the end.

Let's use a hypothetical which is pretty extreme. This is your second game on a hot Saturday day at a large event, and you expect to do another later. All field players are on the other half of the field. One of them thinks a teammate can run onto the ball faster than any defender, so he kicks downfield. But in his enthusiasm, he kicks too hard and off target. The ball will go over the goal line outside the penalty area before any player would have a chance to get it. Every player realizes this quickly, including the goalkeeper. They're all content to stand/walk and watch the ball go out. Obviously, you are supposed to stay at the line that defines offside. Just as obviously, you can't actually run that fast. Once you notice no players are trying to sprint for it, I don't expect you to sprint. But your actions should acknowledge that even with the ball is still where you are "supposed to" be. Keep jogging at least, until the ball actually goes out. Then stop and signal for a goal kick, regardless of how close or far you are from the goal line. Once the referee also signals the goal kick, move to the correct position for that restart. A note on the signal itself that hopefully isn't needed: no matter where you are on the field, the goal kick signal is the flag straight forward. I have seen some newer assistant referees point at the goal mouth. Depending on the referee's and assistant's positions on the field, that can start to look somewhat like the corner kick signal.
