Hi guys I have an asus rog hero maximums XI motherboard and after cleaning my radiator and reinstalling my fans, my computer keeps booting into bios with the code A9 and I don’t know how to get past this. Any help is appreciated
This build has been an utter nightmare. I think I have torn it apart about 15 times due to various faulty parts or necessary upgrades. However, the motherboard and CPU are the only non-confirmed stable parts since those are the only new parts in the system and everything else was rock hard stable.
Rig boots just fine and does it run fast. BUT the only way for me to functionally get into the BIOS is through the Windows repair options on an advanced restart. If I use the keyboard shortcuts while the system is posting it takes me to a black screen and the bug code reads out 'A9'. If I use the Windows feature it boots right into the BIOS config, no problem. Any ideas?
I have tried resetting the CMOS before and after re-seating the GPU, turning Freesync on and off on my monitor, trying HDMI and DP connections, and power cycling the system.
Rig**:**
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
Motherboard: ASRock X570 Taichi (v3.80 - latest daily)
RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) G. Skill Flare X DDR4 3200 CL14
GPU: GTX 1070 FE (latest firmware - updated for latest DP support)
Boot Drive: WD Black nVME 500GB
Data Drive: XPG Black nVME 2TB
Random Drive: 128GB Samsung 860 Pro SATA SSD
PSU: Corsair RM850x
Monitor: Monoprice Dark Matter 34" UW 3440x1440 144 Hz (Samsung Sourced Panel)
OS: Windows 10 20H2 64-Bit
But if I leave it alone for a minute it does boot to Windows. Just can't get into BIOS
So before all this started my pc was working fine decided to turn up my ram MHZ and then my pc started turning off and on tried flashing bios by using the button on the back but no dice I decided to turn off unplug the pc and take out CMOS battery and it reset my bios setting returned it to factory settingsand it started working again fixed one but another pops out its A9 I automatically boot into bios every time I took out the gpu and tried to see if anything was wrong nothing everything is clean I moved around my ram and the code still pops up and I removed my hdd and it still popped with A9 code. I don’t have another set up to try the pieces individually.
I have run out of solutions from searching google and don’t know what else to try except to remove CMOS battery and see if that works Specs: Cpu: RYZEN 9th Gen 5950x Ram: T force 32x2 64GB 3600MHz GPU: aorus Geforce rtx 3080 Ti Motherboard: ROG Strix X570-E gaming
Hope you can help, been through most steps I know. Build below.
Symptoms:
When I power the system on, everything lights up and the board runs through POST. After a while, the board settles on Q code A9, which in the manual is "Start of Setup", and remains in this code indefinitely.
Everything powers on as far as I can tell: case fans and GPU fans all run, cooler LEDs light up, etc. However, at no point is any picture displayed on the connected monitor. The monitor displays "no signal."
Here's what I've tried:
-
Tried HDMI and Display connectors, on two different monitors.
-
Eliminated faulty GPU: plugged it into my current machine and get picture as normal.
-
(The X99 mobo doesn't have onboard video, so I can't just plug straight in.)
-
Also swapped in my current machine's Geforce 1080 and still got no signal as well.
-
-
Tried putting the GPU into another PCIE port, with the same results.
-
Tried the "Clear CMOS" reset. This changed the code at startup to AE (which is "Legacy Boot event"). I then flashed back using the driver I found here, and we're back at A9.
-
(I also renamed the BIOS file on the flash to "X99MWSSE.cap" per instructions in section 3-1 in in owner's manual)
-
-
Tried holding "delete" during power-on on a plugged in keyboard, to see if that would change the behavior. It didn't.
-
Put the support DVD into the optical drive.
Thanks in advance for your insight. Really hopeful for a solution because this is a present for my dad; I can't afford to re-buy a mobo at the moment.
