If this weather continues try and get on the river - Bath boat station hires antique rowing boats, or Original Wild hires paddle boards. In a similar theme, if you want to get out the city a little, Green Park Station hires e-bikes which let you do a nice flat 13 mile loop through Britain's longest cycle tunnel to Dundas Aquaduct and back via the K&A canal. What are some of the best places to visit in Bath (other than the obvious touristy things)?
Restaurants: La Perla. This place is not cheap eats, but it is the best tapas restaurant I’ve ever been to. Book in advance, it’s popular! Martini. A good old fashioned Italian restaurant, if you want a big bowl of pasta and meatballs followed by tiramisu and the gentle tones of friendly Italian waiters shouting at each other in the background this place is for you. Real Italian Pizza & Gelato company. Seriously don’t go anywhere else for ice cream, this place is the best, and the pizza restaurant next door is great too. Georgian Tearooms. Personally I think it’s better than some of the novelty tea rooms tourists always queue for, they do bath buns, cream teas etc. Not fancy, just a nice place for lunch. Shops: Fudge Kitchen. These guys are really entertaining, you can watch it being made and it’s a nice indulgent treat, makes good gifts too. Botanica Studio. If you’re into house plants this place is fucking amazing, it’s like a rainforest. If you’re a foodie there’s lots of nice delis and cheese shops about, too many to list. Attractions (apart from the obvious ones like the baths and the abbey): Jane Austen museum was fun, the tour guides are dressed the part and really enthusiastic. There’s a cute gift shop and lovely cafe upstairs too. Fashion museum. Again, good if you’re into that sort of thing, they’ve got a great shoe exhibition on at the moment. Holburne museum. Great art museum, nice cafe as well. The square outside the abbey is always a great spot for buskers and street performers. Some of them are incredibly talented. I’ve sat and listened to violin players, opera singers etc. Royal crescent is the obvious one but there’s actually loads of beautiful buildings around Bath, just walk around and you’ll see them. Weekend in Bath - What to do?
Check out Bath Abbey, Roman baths, Thermae Spa and the Jane Austen museum if you're into that kind of thing. The Royal Crescent and Victoria Park are lovely too, but it's bloody freezing here at the moment. There's also some great bookshops if you like books. Mr B's and Toppings. Restaurant wise it depends on your budget. The Circus by the crescent is supposed to be nice, but pricey. I like the Green Park Brasserie myself. More on reddit.com

Wells Cathedral is one of England’s greatest treasures – the first Gothic Cathedral in England – and is home to numerous wonders including a fine collection of medieval books, a unique, historic clock, as well as some of the finest carvings, glass, and effergies found anywhere in the UK. Next door is the extraordinary Bishop’s Palace and Gardens that was once home to the great Bishops of Bath and Wells, but now offers visitors an insight into medieval Christianity and incredible walks past the flower beds of the extensive grounds.

October 20, 2024 -

In two weeks I'll be travelling with my wife and two children (3 and 4 yo) to Bath. I' m from the Netherlands, we love coming to the uk and are really looking forward to being in England again!

I have done some research already, but I hope you can help me with the best local spots we have to go to and see.

We have no problem travelling for up to an hour to get somewhere, we have all time we need since we'll be there for a full 3 weeks!

So can you help us with:

  • best things to do with kids?

  • best nature walks (we're not really into long walks, but up to 1,5/2 miles we love to walk in the woods or so!)

  • best Chippy

  • best Indian take away

  • anything we really shouldn't miss when we're there!
