All the pictures and videos I could find show the diverter with a couple prongs that you can kind of wedge the rod out of. I can’t find any examples of this kind of diverter.
Any tips appreciated. I’d rather not have to replace the whole faucet if possible.

Not sure that you can replace the diverter, most times you just replace the spout, in general, the spouse, or attached, in one of two ways, if it is compression, along the very bottom and close to the wall. There will be a hole, if you find the hole an Allen key will fit up inside and if you loosen it, you can just pull the diverter off. The second most common way, would be a half inch threaded connection, in which case you just un-thread the spout from the half-inch copper pipe sticking through the wall. I would first try to identify the valve type and trim model name. It will make it easier to research from there, Moen, Koehler, Price Pfister, etc.

It was hard to see at first but the prongs were behind the wagon wheel piece of plastic. I was able to remove it after breaking some of the wheel spokes. Still might need to replace the whole spout. The diverter rod doesn’t come out even with the plastic removed. Washer seems fine, so I think it’s an issue with the rod not being able to move freely up enough to block the water. Going to investigate more today.
