I have not personally noticed any reliable patterns in sale pricing for decent instruments, or hardly any sales at all for that matter. I think TVs are an outlier in that the market is absolutely saturated and they have a short retail lifespan, but are also a super in-demand item. Manufacturers and retailers both have a lot to gain from offloading TVs for cheap. I don't think those dynamics exist for digital instrument sales. Prices do go down over time. Other ways to shop efficiently are to look for open box, used, or cosmetically damaged items. I was able to save $200 on a midrange Yamaha due to cosmetic damage, which was worth it to me. Finding a local seller can save money because $100 or so of shipping is already baked into retail prices. More on reddit.com

I saw one from my local music store, the yamaha piaggero np-12 g1-key port keyboard. I know how to play the guitar at a basic level (just a few chords, less guitar) but have been dreaming about trying the piano for years. I also was told that learning piano might help with understanding the guitar better. Is it worth spending a hundred and more for a simple instrument? like mentioned, or should I just bite the dust with the 80-120 amazon yamahas? All are 61-keys, I guess this is standard for beginners?

The FAQ has a pretty detailed guide on what to buy as a beginner. Generally, it recommends an 88-key digital piano with weighted keys, which start at around $500 for a decent beginner instrument. As someone who started with a 61-key unweighted keyboard similar to the ones you mention, I can confirm that the difference in jumping to a proper digital piano is worth the money.

Im looking into piano keyboards with 88 keys and its around the 200-300 dollar range. Is there any issues that might come from ordering it off amazon?
Edit: I know there is a chance of it being damaged but is it concerningly high and is that the only major risk?

Amazon offer a very great refund service. If you receive broken item, they usually refund it quickly and easily (Just make sure it's sold from Amazon and not a third party seller, it MAY be more difficult then). The only risk I see from buying keyboard on Amazon is the fact you were not able to test it. At this price range, it should not be a big issue, but at some point, the keys mechanism becomes very important IMO and should be tested before buying one.
