r/TextToSpeech on Reddit: Looking for simple, unlimited, free TTS site
August 8, 2024 -

As a student currently doing a project that requires a lot of dry reading, I'm looking for a simple text to speech site (a chrome extension or something along those lines would also work) which I can use to listen along with said reading.

Most sites I have found are either super realistic, subscription based AI tools which can only take a few thousand words at a time, or google translate voice levels of difficult to listen to.

I'm looking for anything in between which is free and can take large amounts of text, but is as comfortable to listen to as possible.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer, I apologise if this has been asked before, but I've been unable to find a post with my specific purposes in mind.

Hey Redditors,

I’m currently exploring different text-to-speech (TTS) AI tools and was wondering what everyone here is using. I’m looking for something that delivers natural-sounding voices, supports multiple languages, and ideally offers some customization features like speed, pitch, or emotion.

Hey guys, I'll keep this short.

If anyone has used ChatGPT, specifically, their audio feature then they will know how advanced and realistic those voices sound. (If you haven't I highly recommend listening to them -- they are a complete game changer!)

I took advantage of the fact that ChatGPT automatically generates audio for its responses and made my chrome/firefox extension called "GPT Reader: A Free ChatGPT Powered TTS"

It turned out really well and has a really nice and easy to use reading experience. Please check it out.

I tried using the internet edge read aloud and it always gets confused reading a reddit post. I like to do aaaalot of research on Reddit so I figure if I can find a good app, I can multitask and do other stuff while the program is speaking to me. I use android and windows 10.

I tried to research this awhile ago but couldn't find any answers.

Hi everyone! I'm a developer who also listens to audiobooks. I use AI text-to-speech and voice cloning for my personal projects and sometimes to read fiction stories out loud.

I tested ElevenLabs, speechify, play.ht, Fish Audio, murf ai, resemble ai, and a couple others... Fish Audio honestly blew me away with the quality of their voices.

I cloned myself and it sounded indistinguishable from real life. Their text-to-speech sounds as natural as real human speech and you can inject pauses and emotional tones to perfect it.

They also offer a free plan you can check them out at https://fish.audio !

If you want tips, settings I used, or anything else let me know!

Can someone be kind enough to put a free text to speech in the comments? I have ADHD and can't for the life of me sit down and read, so I wanted to use text to speech to make books into audiobooks. But every text to speech sight is scummy as hell and wants you to pay an arm and a leg for their trashy site. Could someone help me find one that's actually free? Please and Thanks.

I like using TTS to read my textbooks and assigned readings, I used this one software (Natural Reader I think) and it had AI voices for premium, for free accounts you only got 5 minutes a day. I found with those AI voices vs the normal robotic sounding TTS it helped me focus better. I'm curious if there is anything similar but free because I don't feel like paying a monthly subscription.

I feel like every ai voice site I find has some sort of restriction or stipulation, like a limited number of minutes, or poor quality, with how popular ai is becoming, there has to be SOME high quality ai generator that’s free somewhere. I’m in a place of my life where I’m not able to afford the subscriptions for these at the moment. Once I’m able to make money using ai, I will. But I am just starting out, and unable to for now.

Responses appreciated.

Hey everyone! I’ve been experimenting with AI voice generators for my personal projects (YouTube scripts, short films, and audiobook samples).

I tested three tools (Speechelo, Play.ht, and ElevenLabs), and honestly, ElevenLabs blew me away — the voices are incredibly human-like, and it lets you customize or even clone voices.

I used it to create narration for a short story and people thought it was a real voice actor 😅

They offer a free plan, so if you’re curious, try it out here:https://try.elevenlabs.io/ai-voice-generator-jeff

If you want tips on how I used it or sample settings, let me know!

Hello everyone!

Are there any affordable AI voice over services/software that are recommend? I looked into ElevenLabs but the monthly limits are too restrictive. Especially because I want to experiment.

I'd like it to sound natural, if possible. Some AI voice over software that I can run locally on my PC would be great too.

I'm aware that AI voice overs aren't really appreciated by audience (and creators), but my voice isn't suitable for videos.

Curious to hear which software you'all are using.

Surely there must be some public service conscious appmaker who’s made a free competitor to Natural Reader and Speechify? I’ve done both of their free trials now and I refuse to believe such a simple program should be a monthly subscription. It’s just greedy.

Do you guys know if any exist for iOS?

I just got Applio to try and use the TTS voice synthesiser. However the problem is that the base TTS that Applio uses before it converts the voices is incredibly robotic and stiff, making the TTS basically useless.

Are there any actually halfway decent TTS voices I can use so I can import them into Applio?

From what I've seen only ElevenLabs has natural sounding voices, they also have an emotional range. However you still need to figure things out through trial and error, which means you are burning through the allowed words you've paid for just trying to get something decent.
