r/harrypotter on Reddit: I finally visited the Harry Potter studios in London
June 8, 2025 -

Just got back from a full day at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter (yep, that's the full name LOL) and damn… it was amazing. But also overwhelming if you don’t plan it right.

Some quick thoughts that might help if you're going soon:

Pros

The sets are insane. Hogwarts Great Hall, Diagon Alley and the full-size Hogwarts Express are worth the ticket alone.

You'll nerd out over the props and behind-the-scenes stuff - especially the animatronics and makeup areas.

Butterbeer is a thing. It's weirdly good. Try it at least once.

You can walk inside Privet Drive. Childhood unlocked.

Cons

The gift shop is... dangerous. Like €€€ dangerous.

It’s crowded. Even off-peak, expect lines.

Food is mid. Eat before or after.

Advice for first-timers

Book way in advance - no tickets on-site.

Take your time. The average visit is 3–4 hours, but I could've easily stayed 5.

Bring a power bank. You'll take hundreds of photos. In my case videos

Go early in the day if you want the best lighting in the outdoor section (like the Knight Bus and Privet Drive).

Hello! I'll be in London at the end of November and wanted to explore the studios, but the only available tickets are after 5 pm. I'd like to keep my evenings free. I see an option to purchase a studio ticket with transfer to get a morning entry time, but the round trip by bus would take about 7-8 hours, including 4 hours in the studios. The train looks like a much faster option. I have two questions to help me decide.

  1. Wouldn’t 4 hours in the studio be a bit too long? Are there really enough things to do to fill the time? I’m a fast walker and usually get through everything quickly.

  2. If I choose an evening tour, is it easy to return to London (Covent Garden) at night from Watford Junction? Is it safe for a solo female?

Thanks!

I’m a 33 year old who is only just now reading these books and loving them! My spouse and I will be in London for two nights in June. It’s between other destinations, and I studied abroad in London in 2012 (so I’ve gotten to experience highlights of the city, though not in a long time). Is it worth my one full day there to go out to the Warner Brothers studio set and tour it?

Hey Potterheads, I’m going to be in London just for a quick weekend.

Has anyone done one of the (many) Harry Potter walking tours in the city, and do you recommend it, OR should I just follow a self guided walking tour based on one of the (also many) online blogs?

Any other must do Potter experiences in the city, please let me know :) we have limited time so nothing outside of the city please.

Before you suggest the studio tour, it’s sold out already:(

Hi!

I wanted to share our experience visiting Harry Potter Studios in London. My boyfriend and I are huge Harry Potter fans and we decided to celebrate my birthday there. It was the best decision ever!

We got our tickets on the Warner Bros website 6 months in advance. You don’t need to do it that early unless you really want a specific date like we wanted my birthday.

We got there by train to Watford Junction and then used the Studios’ shuttle bus to get to the HPS.

We genuinely had the best time – we spent over 5 hours at the studio, explored every little piece of the tour, and wished we had more money for the fan shop 😊

The sets are all incredible and if you ever get the chance to visit, please take it and go!

I’m leaving you with a guide that can be helpful if you’re going soon, and it has many, many amazing photos if you want to see what it looks like!

Thanks so much for reading 😊

May 27, 2025 -

As an HP fan, is the guided tour worth it?? or even the combo tours with the dinner/breakfasts???

I know Im going to spend hours and hours there anyhow looking at everythind and probably do already know a lot about HP, so it it really worth doing a guided tour or it is overpriced and I should just go for the standard one?

Side quest: I'm going there a couple of days before my birthday and i really wanted to be there on the exact date, but it's just not possible because of circumstances, do you think I could still book my ticket as a bday treat ticket?

I have somehow managed to get a UK visa and don't think I will be able to go back for years, so really want to make the most of it.

I went today and there’s a few tips I would follow:- BOOK TICKETS IN ADVANCE!! Tickets sell like a month in advance but if you want to keep checking the website you could get a cancellation Try to book earlier in the day - once the tour starts, your in a cinema (don’t want to give spoilers..😉) and once that’s over your left to your own devices so can walk around and take as long as you like. I would say 3pm booking latest. A lot of people dress up and get right into the Hogwarts Magic so if you want to wear any magic gear you will definitely fit in! The Green Screen options are great fun! Highly recommend queuing for the opportunities and the queues don’t take too long. Can’t stress this enough, Take a break! Half way through there’s a cafe. You don’t have to buy anything but take a seat for a few minutes. Maybe bring some snacks as the cafe is fairly pricey if your bring a family. It’s a fair bit of walking so a sit down and rest is rather nice. There’s no need to rush though it, take your time and soak it in! Which leads me on to my next tip… Don’t rush! Once your in you can take as long as you like looking around so don’t feel like you have to get round it, again take in the magic!!! Try not to film/photos. I know It’s great fun to look back but being in the moment and enjoying the magic is way forward! Absolutely take some selfies but so many people walk around filming the whole thing and I think it really ruins “being in the moment” and the magic of the whole thing! This one’s personal but Butter Beers are gross! Butter beer ice cream is the way forward and highly recommend that! The shop is ridiculously expensive and half empty! Don’t get your hopes up for the shop. I absolutely recommend going, even if your not a massive potter head. It’s a magical exciting experience and I highly recommend young and old to go! You will have the best time!! I’ll leave the link below so you can book your tickets!! https://www.wbstudiotour.co.uk/tickets/

It was our gift for our daughter’s birthday. Planned a few days family trip from Paris and we all enjoyed it. She and her brother ended up buying a wand in the shop and I was this close to pick one for me too 😅

I’m not a potterhead myself but seeing the real sets, props, and costumes that were used in the movies was quite amazing I must say. I thought you guys might enjoy some of the pics I took during the tour

My 18 yr old daughter and I are heading to London first week of September. I'm going to surprise her with the Harry Potter studio tour and I'm trying to decide, if the afternoon tea add on is worth it, and also if it would be better to schedule the tea before or after the tour. TIA

I'm visiting London soon and the studio tour is sold-out.

I keep refreshing in case something gets cancelled but no luck so far.

What else can I do besides the tour? Any suggestions?

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for your suggestions but I DID IT. I found a ticket for the exact date I needed it for! I literally felt like Harry must have felt when he was told he was a wizard.

If anyone else is looking for last minute tickets my advice is this: check out (LEGIT) third party websites and KEEP. REFRESHING.

ABSOLUTELY. I’m from the US and my friend surprised me with the HP Tour in London while on our vacation to the UK right before the pandemic hit and it was such a magical experience! Don’t know where you’re based, but tickets usually have to be booked far in advance because they tend to sell out quickly, so plan ahead! I know when my friend looked for tickets, everything was sold out but she ended up finding tickets through a 3rd party tour company and the price included the admission ticket + a bus that picked us up from London (where we were staying) and dropped us off in Leavesden (where the tour is located) and also included the ride back to London. You should book the earliest time slot available so that you could get your money’s worth, since tickets are pricey. You have a tour guide that walks you through the Great Hall and they explain little details for a few minutes, but after that, it’s pretty much a self-guided tour. You can take as much time as you want, and trust me, you’ll probably spend hours looking at all the costumes, set designs, and props! You should also ask for a free passport book at the ticket window - there’s a few stamp machines throughout the tour where you can stamp the pages of your book. A pretty neat free souvenir :) Overall, it was a very wonderful experience and it was a lot of fun getting to look at everything up close and trying to remember where I saw it in the movies. If possible, I would recommend going around the holidays (Christmas/New Year’s) because that’s when they have the Great Hall decked out in Christmas decor, just like the films. On a side note, if anyone from the US is unable to travel all the way to London to attend the tour (my heart feels for you
