r/iPhoneography on Reddit: Best Free photography app?
October 24, 2024 -
I recently upgraded from iPhone X to the iPhone 16 Pro. The camera is awesome! But I’m wanting to set my exposure manually, and the native app only allows a couple of seconds.
My goal is to do some night photography, stars, etc. but I don’t want to spend $ if I don’t have to. If an app costs a few $ as a one time expense, I’m okay with that, but don’t want to have a subscription.
What are the best 3rd party apps for long exposure photos that are either free or a one time expense?
Thanks in advance!

(Can shot up to 30sec on a real dark environment on a tripod) free 4) The best long exposure photography app (on tripod) is by far even longer app. Paid 5) The best hand held long exposure is Reheld app from reflex. There's a great camera app called Fjorden; it's completely free (doesn't even have in-app purchases at all). Has all the needed features: manual mode, raw, and also can shoot video. free camera app?
The only decent camera app was Halide for me. But these greedy mfs updated it to v2 and completely paywalled it. While features are fun, totally not worth the money they ask for “full subscription-free version”. You have several options for shooting RAW free but both are kinda complicated and apps are rather sluggish – Lightroom and VSCO. Non-free but cheap alternative can be Camera+. Has a good UI, fast and provides with all things needed to get a nice shot. But honestly, at the end of the day default camera is best for shooting fast. I use it 95% of all times, and I have an SE 3 – similar sized phone to your 8. Try to shoot with it a little more and see if you like the results. For less processed shots use burst mode More on reddit.com

I use stock 90% of the time and for most shots, even for RAW. I use Halide the other 10% of the time when I want to manually focus or want to use focus peaking and shoot RAW. I never use it for regular shots.

November 17, 2017 - Camera+ ($2.99, £2.99, AU$4.49) is one of the original third-party camera apps for the iPhone, and it's only gotten better with time. Outside the default auto mode, you can choose between shutter priority or full manual control, which lets you fine-tune focus, shutter speed, ISO and even white balance. Camera+ also lets you shoot photos in raw. One of the best features of Camera+ is the ability to tap with two fingers to set exposure and focus separately.

February 5, 2025 - It does require registration, which you can easily do via your iCloud or Gmail account, but the entire application functions for free with the exception of syncing across multiple devices via Adobe Cloud — that obviously requires an Adobe subscription. Naturally, if you already pay for Lightroom, just simply sign in with your Adobe ID. Not only is Lightroom one of the best mobile photo editors out there, but its built-in camera has extensive features that make the entire app worthy of all-around use.

If it needs anything it Needs a Level, and perhaps a separation of ISO from Shutter Speed elements, and perhaps an “add video to photo library” option and an optional function to combine zooms into one, like in the native camera app (but maybe that’s nitpicking, and not a pro type of thing) but so far, so good. Thanks Apple for another Great free app!👍

June 24, 2025 - The Indigo app tries to solve one of the iPhone’s biggest camera woes: the algorithmic processing. Most of the time, it does a fantastic job, but there are a few gaps that apps like Indigo try to fill. Color realism, better night mode output, and pro-grade controls are just a few of them. But to get the best out of it, you must know the basics of frame composition controls.
