The Best PCs (Desktop Computers) We've Tested for 2025 | PCMag

☀️Summer 2025 PC Best Buy Guide☀️
If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post: New build or upgrade? Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors) Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) Budget range? (Include tax considerations) WiFi or wired connection? Size/noise constraints? Color/lighting preferences? Any other specific needs? Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests: Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software. Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists. We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date. What's the current "go-to" for a high end gaming PC?
My rule of thumb for gaming PCs is to allocate about half the budget to the graphics card. CPUs - Ryzen 9000 & Intel 13th gen had physical defects in early models. These defective CPUs are no longer sold. AMD delayed the launch and pulled it from shelves, while many Intel ones got out. Ryzen 7000 and Intel 13th-14th Gen have a separate issue where motherboards apply too much voltage damaging the CPU. Many people confuse/conflate this with the earlier CPU defects. AMD released BIOS updates last year to fix it, Intel released BIOS updates this year to fix the voltage. Damaged CPUs can't be fixed, but the correct voltage prevents damage. The 7800X3D & 9800X3D are the best gaming CPUs in the world, but the 9800X3D is fully sold out. AMD uses a separate CPU chip and a separate chip to connect the RAM. This separate RAM chip adds a small delay. Intel copied AMD for new Ultra 200 chips. Ryzen 9000 and Intel Ultra 200 are not great for gaming because of the delay from the RAM controller. 9000 is barely better than 7000, and Intel Ultra 200 is a downgrade. X3D fixes this by attaching RAM to the CPU. Thermalright is now the king of CPU coolers, they make heat pipes out of powdered copper that's fused on the outside. This makes them better performing than other CPU coolers with solid copper heat pipes. Heat Pipes contain liquid, and the powdered heat pipes act like a sponge sucking up the liquid so it doesn't all fall to the bottom. AMD and Nvidia will release new GPUs this month. AMD and Intel will release discounted Ryzen 9000 and Intel Ultra 200 models this month. ATX 2 PSUs (2004 standard) could handle a peak of 10-30% their listed capacity. So a 1,000 watt PSU might handle 1,100-1,300 watts peak. ATX 3 PSUs (2023 standard) are required to handle a peak of double their listed capacity, so a 650 watt unit must handle a 1,300 watt peak. A graphics card basically turns off and on billions of times a second. If it's 500 watts, then zero, then 500, then zero - it might average 250 watts. However a 400 watt ATX 2 PSU can't handle it, but a 400 watt ATX 3 PSU couldn't. Measuring these peaks needs advanced lab equipment, so in the old days many people bought PSUs with a bunch of extra capacity because they didn't know the peak usage of the graphics card. How Do I Choose a Good Desktop Computer?
Based on our pick list, we've reviewed an impressive variety of the best desktops, right? We don't deny that a laptop or tablet is a better choice for people who engage in business travel or whose computing consists mostly of basic surfing and typing from the living room couch. However, desktops are often the best choice and provide the best value for small offices, families, creative professionals, gamers, and tech enthusiasts.
While desktops don't come in as many distinct forms as laptops, you'll find lots of variation in computing power and room for upgrades and expansion. The key is to spend as little as possible to get exactly what you want from your next desktop computer, whether that's a budget buy or a high-performance PC.

Can I upgrade my desktop computer later?
You can but upgrading a tower system is easier and offers more options. An all-in-one or small-form-factor PC does not have as many expansion slots as a tower system. And it's easier to access the internal components on a tower PC where you can slide off a side panel to get to the motherboard.

The Best PC Games Of 2025 According To Metacritic - GameSpot
1 day ago - The remastered version of The Last of Us Part II takes the 2020 PS4 game and reimagines it for PS5 and PC with better graphics, DualSense controller integration, and a roguelike survival mode called No Return. If you've already played the game, this isn't worth it unless you're desperate to play through Ellie and Abby's journey again and reexperience their respective handlings of revenge. But if you haven't yet gone through the duo's intertwining quests through the post-pandemic United States, this is the best way to see their violent rivalry play out.

I've Been A PC Expert For 6 Years—These Are My Top 9 Desktop Computers
August 21, 2025 - Speaking of which, the built-in Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is good enough for most titles at 1080p—and can run some of the latest games at 1440p. That said, it’s last year’s model of graphics card, but that shouldn’t sway you from this PC because it’s still a powerful chipset. The Dell XPS 8960 is tricky to upgrade, so it isn’t the best option for people who want a future-proof computer.

The best PC hardware and software of 2025/2026 | PCWorld
November 19, 2025 - If you want a solid, affordable handheld gaming PC…just get Valve’s Steam Deck. It’s nearly four years old now, but with a starting price of $400 and a “sweet spot” OLED upgrade at $550, it’s still the best option out there for most gamers (especially if you pair the Steam Deck with a GeForce Now subscription, an utterly transformative duo).
