So my personal domain email address would be some thing like this … domain-name @ gmail . Com You got it wrong. The domain name is the part after the @ sign. Google owns the domain gmail.com so you can obviously not use that for a personal domain. Read more at: https://workspace.google.com/

For all that to happen, one would have to ensure that BOTH the domain name and the Gmail address were available to register.

Go to a domain registrar like name.com, Namecheap, Ionos, etc. (there are many others), register the domain you want and order a package which includes email service.

There's a million options but here's what I did: I registered the domain on domains.google.com for $12 a year. Then I bought Microsoft 365 Business for $12.50/mo since I needed Office apps anyway for my consulting business, as well as cloud storage. Upon registration, Microsoft gives you instructions to modify DNS settings on Google. It's pretty easy even for non-IT people. From there on out it just worked, I get/use my email through Outlook on my PC and phone, or via the web Outlook app from any different computer. Google offers free basic website hosting which I took advantage of, and they have options to buy email hosting using a gmail-like interface as well.
