Hepburn had an MGM contract, while Grant was a freelancer. Studios preferred to use in-house talent most of the time, which was cheaper. People like Grant and Irene Dunne would be brought in periodically when a particular part came up calling for their particular talents. Back at MGM, Hepburn paired off with Spencer Tracy, and liked it, so appropriate vehicles were tailored to them as a result, leaving no room to pair Hepburn and Grant again. More on reddit.com
