edit: Alas, the following procedure did NOT work Disabling automatic downloads worked for me: In Chrome, select the menu at the upper-right corner of the screen, then choose Settings Select Privacy and security Select Site Settings Expand the Additional permissions settings Choose Automatic downloads Toggle the switch to Don't allow sites to automatically download multiple files More on reddit.com

Please don't ignore this, it concerns me a lot
Basically, recently Chrome has started downloading something every time I opened it. It wouldn't tell me what was downloading. I would quickly close chrome using task manager everytime something started downloading. Then, some malware (I ran a malwarebytes scan and it showed up) popped up on my computer after this happened and I got really scared. I just reinstalled chrome.
I thought it would stop, but it didn't and once I reinstalled chrome, this happened. I tried to search for the file C:\Users\josep\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Download Service\Files\9f694098-.... but nothing showed up.
Can anyone tell me why Chrome is doing this, what it is, and what I can do about it?

Hi, recently I’ve been having a repeated issue where when I download something in Chrome, as soon as the download is done it just shows me a message saying it was removed.
I thought that maybe it was a macbook issue as well but when doing the same downloads with safari it worked fine. I would rather try and find a solution since i don’t like using safari and have all my extensions in chrome as well so what could possibly be causing this issue?
I checked the security settings i have and made sure change the safe browsing tab to standard protection and the downloads folder is the same one I used for safari when comparing the two, so now im lost. Should I delete chrome and reinstall it or is there a way to salvage this?

Standard protection is already too much for some file formats, try no protection at all just for a few minutes (malware gets around these locks anyway).

Don't know if you ever found a fix, but for me it was NordVPN's anti-malware settings. Even deleted downloads from places like Google Photos, which I would have thought surely it'd be ok with. Hope you found a fix!
