Omg, people here are so hyperbolic. You can totally use Chrome! Chrome now has a memory optimization setting you can turn on as well. In fact, sometimes I'll see that it's Safari that consumes more ram. If you don't want Chrome you can also get Edge which has sleeping tabs and is a Chromium browser so all sites will work. Google changed it so it’s a universal binary meaning it auto detects which chip you have. I had to manually select when I got my Mac in the summer and when I got the new round of MBP, it didn’t ask. It just downloaded. You can check manually by going into activity monitor and going to energy usage I think and it’ll say either intel or apple next to the app. If it sais apple, then it’s optimized for M1 You can also go to chrome and update and look to see after the version number. I use safari...but unfortunately safari is not a supported website for taking Duolingo English tests...this is the reason...why I wanted to download Chrome on my mac...but I've heard that Chrome slows down macs and uses an excessive amount of battery...even chrome takes up a lot of RAM space...that's why...I'm confused whether I should download Chrome on my M1 pro Mac or not...

Hello everybody! I recently purchased a new M1 macbook pro. In my previous macbook, a 2017 air, I would always use safari because it was made for apple products and didn't drain the battery.
However, I've heard there is an M1 macbook optimized version of google chrome available nowadays. I simply went to the chrome website and clicked download chrome for mac. Does this automatically download the M1 optimized version of chrome or is there a specific site for me to go to?
I don't really know how to check if I have the right version or not.
