I found I needed to explicitly say "playwright mcp" the first time, otherwise it might try to use Bash to run Playwright instead. The claude mcp add command will persist but will only affect the directory in which you run it. It took me a while to figure out how that works - eventually I tracked it down to a JSON file ~/.claude.json which includes a "projects" key with objects for each directory I had used with Claude Code in the past.

No matter what I try, Claude code cannot access the Microsoft Playwright MCP. I'm searching for troubleshooting tips, but can't find anything. Is there anyone using it?

[EDIT] Solved, "claude mcp add playwright -- npx "@playwright/mcp@latest" worked.

I have successfully integrated this playwright mcp -Microsoft one ( adding tools ) to Claude code . We can now add a prompt and pass it in Claude code headless cli .. however the browser navigation is quite slow .. for example it takes more than 4 seconds for Claude code to login using username and password..

How did you speed up the process ..? I am using WSL2

Just saw a YT video about using playwright mcp. All the behaviors described (screenshots, etc) are available to CC without installing or using MCP, so I’m just curious, is there value to using the MCP over simply asking Claude to “use playwright to visit blah and screenshot the results, review the error and fix”

mcp is a layer telling AI when and how to use specific tools. So yes, it might be a time saver - if time is a value for you

You can just ask Claude to run Playwright locally and get screenshots but the difference once you move into MCP is all about scale + persistence. With a straight Claude call you are spinning up a one-off task. For simple testing raw Playwright calls are fine. But once you are building actual agent workflows that need reliability scraping LinkedIn, running SaaS dashboards, UI testing the MCP layer removes a ton of the duct tape. Thats basically why we built Browser MCP on top of it.
