Is it possible to somehow make an automated drill with a standalone activator so that it can install a gantry crane shaft? At the same time, it can drill a path for the gantry crane shaft, and the entire structure can move back and forth without any problems?

Far as I can tell we have the tools to do all of that, but Im unsure about the last bit. I'd think you'd need a cart machine to drill and build and then build whatever you need on the gantry

But I cannot find "Mechanical Drills" as an item in game, Just wondering which addon should have it.

isn't Mechanical Drill from regular Create? do you have JEI installed? that sometimes causes items to disappear

I know someone made a post like 2 years ago on to refuel the portable drill and I used coal as a fuel source, but when I try to use it doesn’t do anything. Mining with a pickaxe is faster. Unless I’m just an idiot and the portable drill is used for something else?

The Portable Drill (from Create: Stuff and Additions) needs both Fuel and Water to run. You put water into it the same way as you do with fuel (hold the drill in your off-hand, the fuel/water bucket in your main hand, and then "drop" the fuel/water bucket). If you open up your inventory and hover over the Portable Drill, it will show you how much water and fuel it currently has. Stuff and Additions also adds Fuel and Water tanks in three sizes. These are portable items that hold 8/16/32 buckets of water/lava, which will automatically refill your portable drill (and your jetpack/exoskeleton) when in your inventory. You fill both of them by holding them and then right-clicking on a source block of water or lava. The fuel one only works for Lava as far as I can tell (I wasn't able to put any other liquid fuel from other addons into it). So if you want to continue using coal/charcoal, you'll still have to add fuel with the drop method. The Portable Drill is most useful when you add the Digging enchantment, which allows it to mine a 3x3 area. (Note that while the drill can break anything, the 3x3 mode only works on pickaxe-materials, like stone and ores and such. You can still break dirt REALLY FAST, but only one block at a time.) I've never found a Digging Enchantment book while looting, so I think the only way to get it is to set up an Enchanting station and getting it randomly (although it's possible you could buy one from a Villager if you got really lucky). It kinda breaks the Create flavor IMHO, having to get a specific enchantment to make a mechanical device work better, so I usually just use Creative to give myself the Digging enchantment book, and "craft" it out of (i.e. throw away) a couple precision mechanisms and diamonds instead.

You need to shift-click the minecart contraption with a wrench. If you don't know how to make minecart contraptions, check the ponder menu for "cart assembler"

So, I’m kinda new to create. I’ve been testing for a while and still can find a good, compact source of moveable kinetic energy for a pulley drill I’ve been designing. I’m trying to make it 3x3 and I can’t figure it out without using a creative motor. Does anyone know any ways I could go about figuring this out?

If you move a drill it breaks blocks in front of it, there is no need to power it.

I don't have a picture, but you can easily make that with: A rope pulley. 9 chassis. 9 drills. Slime or superglue. A chest, barrel, shulker or other storage block. Power source (ie: windmill.) That one block that reverses the rotation of a shaft (I don't remember the name of it.) A lever. Place the pulley with a 3x3 floor of chassis below it, making sure that they're all facing up and are connected. Use superglue on a corner and place a chest there. On the underside, superglue all the tiles, then place the drills on them. Then connect the power source to the rotation reverse thing, then that to the pulley. Place a lever on the reverse thing and use it to reverse the pulley. What should happen is that the rop from the pulley should go down, connect with the chassis, then start drilling into the ground.

The rope pulley is to easily bring it back to the surface, but if you don't need that part then you can just do the drills and chests with a minecart stuck to the side somewhere.
