#420 chain drives the tines, #50 chain drives the wheels. It's real common for them to break the #420 chain on the tines if you hit a rock or something solid that creates a sudden shock load.

We have a Cub Cadet RT65 tiller, about 4 yrs. old. Although it propels forward and reverse, and the tines rotate when engaged, they stop when lowered to the ground. That looks like you have to gear shift arm off to remove the cover. None of this makes any sense, but I've seen engineers do dumber things. I noticed someone mentioned they had one when I did a search of threads. Where do you check/add oil? I guess this is the RT 65 by looking at a pic of one on the Cub Cadet website.

17 July 2011 - Your tiller was made by mtd,unless there is an id tag on trans with mfg/mod# you probably won't be able to locate a repair manual for same,goto link below & click on mtd,from product list select tiller/cultivator,try to determine what yr tiller is as rt65 was made 99-11,look at assembly drawings/parts list for trans,there are 2 drive chains inside trans,one of these may have broke or possibly a shaft key,trans will have to be remove/disassembled to determine whats wrong with same,if you don't have an owners manual for same,once you determine yr/mod#,write down the mtd mod# for same goto www.mtdproducts.com & download an owners manual for same,will have trans assembly drawings/parts list in it,there are no service/repair manuals listed at mtd site for trans.
