I have a zt1 and the hitch plate leaves a lot to be desired. Is there an actual receiver hitch kit, or do I need to build one?

If you are moving trailers short distances it shouldn't be a problem. The issue with zero turn transmissions is they aren't designed to do more than cut grass. It's not a garden tractor. There isn't a hitch available for these. You either need to modify a hitch so you can put a ball on it, or make your own hitch.

If that's the bolt-on metal bracket with a hole then that's it. What are you planning to pull? Most ZTR transmissions are not rated for much more than sprayers or dethachers or sweepers. My ZT2 manual specifically says no ground engaging equipment. The tranny on the ZT1 is not serviceable so if the fluid gets burned from pulling a heavy load, there's no easy way to change it.
