Why do you think Damon Wayans couldn't break out in the same way Eddie Murphy did? Both were SNL alumni's and top tier stand up comics and both got their breakthrough in popular buddy cop movies.
Ready? This is easy. Blankman (1994) - lost money Major Payne (1995) - lost money Celtic Pride (1996) - lost money The Great White Hype (1996) - lost money Bulletproof (1996) - lost money Damon (1998 TV show) - cancelled after 13 episodes Bamboozled (2000) - lost money In fact, all of the movies above COMBINED only grossed $80 million. Mo' Money in 1992 was really his only successful movie with him in the starring role, and still only made $42 million. So that's $120 million for an entire decade of movies with him in a lead role. Eddie Murphy? $316 million on the first Beverly Hills Cop alone. $150 million on The Golden Child. $300 million on Coming to America. Damon Wayans picked shitty scripts. Or he's not as good as Eddie Murphy. Or both. All there is to it. More on reddit.com
Whats with Damon Wayans right now?
So as a big fan of the Lethal Weapon films I was planning on skipping this show because remakes/spin offs/reboots/etc are usually terrible. But after I saw that both Wayans and Crawford were cast I decided to give it a shot because I really liked both of them on past shows ('My Wife and Kids' for Wayans, and the brilliant 'Rectify' for Crawford - seriously, give that show a watch if you haven't already!). So I've got no favourite and aren't playing sides..... BUT, Wayans has been acting dodgy as hell throughout this whole situation. It is pretty clear that Crawford and him have fallen out, and maybe Crawford was at fault (who knows), but no other cast member seems to have a problem and it is clearly Wayans that has complained about the situation and pushed to have Crawford fired (therefore ending the show and losing everybody their job). Not only that, but he has acted so unprofessionally on social media all week with the constant retweeting of actors who can replace Clayne, people saying the show will still be great without Clayne, replying sarcastically to people saying they don't want the show to continue without Clayne, etc. I'm really disappointed to see him acting this way. I hope that the show gets renewed and keeps both of them as the stars, but honestly if he is acting this childish now who knows what will happen the next time a situation arises on set? Which is very likely to happen as it's obvious they don't have a good relationship these days. More on reddit.com
