Hi, I’m an international grad student admitted into Dartmouth mem program 2024fall. I’ve been looking housing for grad students and I need some advice: I want to save money so is it cheaper to live distant from school (e.g.Sachem) and buy a car or to live close to school(e.g. Summit)? Any advice will be helpful, thx!
Hi! I'm currently a grad student living in campus affiliated housing, and I'm trying to get a subletter. I've posted on Dartlist, but I haven't gotten a bite yet. Are there any other places where I can post about it? Thank y'all so much!
Hi! I'm a grad student looking for housing starting July onwards for a year or so. Would prefer to stay closer to campus. If you have any leads please let me know.
Also I have a few questions if anyone would be kind to answer:
-
Is it possible to get on campus housing? I saw that there is a process but there aren't any listings anymore. Is there a particular time/date these get updated?
-
What is the average amount grad students spend on food + rent per month? Are there grocery stores etc available to go to nearby?
Thank you!
Good luck!
Your only options are Zillow and Dartmouth's Upper Valley Rentals site. If you follow Dartmouth real estate on Twitter and literally refresh all day, you might be able to find Sachem ("on campus" but it's a 30-minute walk) housing but you have to apply within the first 2-3 minutes or it'll be gone.
Rental costs have increased like 60% in the last 3 years and Dartmouth refuses to build/buy more grad student housing. You're looking at probably $2400/1,000 sq anywhere in the upper valley, and more than that if you want to walk to campus.
Some friendly advice: stay the hell away from KCC properties.
Edit: oh and food is expensive here too. I think I spend $150/week, probably, eating out about once a week. There is one grocery store within walking distance, but it's ~50% more expensive than if you drive to Shaw's/Hannaford in West Lebanon.
There's a free bus that goes around the area to Price Chopper in West Leb, their prices are much better than the Co-op in Hanover.
