October 5, 2016 - The Terry Richardson-lensed Dazed & Confused cover of a then-23-year-old Milla Jovovich is as relevant now as it was in 1999 (ignoring the fact that we made a minor typo on the cover – sorry Milla!). Following an era of digital manipulation and nothing-short-of-perfect imagery, Richardson’s photographs of Jovovich were real, human, and definitely ahead of the times. Matt Irwin, Walter Van Beirendonck and Nicola Formichetti would combine for November 2007’s ‘Sex Me Up!’ cover, a foursome of models Anna, Luke, Florian and Eddie. Naked aside from pow-wow headwear by Stephen Jones for Walter, and more headpieces by Gary Card, it captured a particular Dazed energy. The story also epitomised the magazine’s love of sculptural and showpiece fashion.

To celebrate its achievements and legacy over the past 30 years, and keep momentum for the future, outgoing editor Isabella Burley and previous art director Jamie Reid have put together a mammoth 288-page hardcover book Dazed: 30 Years Confused: The covers that launched a movement, published by Rizzoli. Reid and Burley’s team found a “recurring theme” of unusual or unexpected pairings. “It is in the DNA of Dazed to be risk taking and progressive,” Reid tells It’s Nice That. “It has recurred throughout the 30 years and we tapped into this.” · The book is split into ten chapters which each take their cue from the magazine’s most memorable cover lines.

December 26, 2024 - And finally, our last wave of covers presented the new vanguard of acting talent, Oscar-hopeful Mikey Madison, modern heartthrobs Harris Dickinson and Drew Starkey, as well as British rapper Pa Salieu.
