Check that the sata type is set correctly also in the bios. Legacy or UEFI. If your battery went flat and cmos battery is dead, the bios will go to factory default, and if that setting changed it will not boot.

April 13, 2025 - I Downloaded Easy2Boot and set it up boot to a USB stick I then booted the Dell to this and checked out the various options but I didn't know what I was doing I restarted and tried picking the Dell Recovery USB but got the same error I restarted several times, and then there was a different USB drive option in the boot menu I selected this and it booted to the Recovery USB I now have Windows 10 on my new internal SSD 🤷🏻

My computer suddenly shut down as I was watching a YT video and everytime I restart it this happens:

I have done a few things found by Google searching (I've done it on its own and all together. Also these are not done in particular order):
Load Optimized Defaults
Change Boot Options to: Windows Boot Manager Onboard NIC (IPV4) Onboard NIC (IPV6)
Enable BIOS Auto-Recovery
Press F12 and run diagnostics
*right now everything's back to default settings
I dont have a lot of tech smarts so please keep everything in layman's terms.

My main computer finally bit the dust. I've got a Dell T3600 that's ready to be resurrected. The first thing I need to do is boot the computer up so I can put a fresh copy of Windows on it. I made a bootable USB by downloading a Windows 10 ISO from Windows website and used the Recovery Utility on my Chromebook. However when I try to boot the T3600 with the USB I get "Selected boot device failed."
I read on some forums that I should try to turn off "Secure Boot" and make sure it's in Legacy mode. I made sure the Legacy mode is on, but I can't find any "Secure Boot" option on my BIOS settings. My BIOS version is A14. I tried UEFI mode as well, but I had no luck with that either.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I feel like I'm out of options. TIA

Disabling secure boot fixed it for me when trying to install kali linux.

It sounds like you created the installation USB stick incorrectly. Maybe it's in the wrong file system format or maybe the files are in the wrong location on it. See if you can find a guide for how to do it on a Chromebook. If you have access to a PC running Windows or Linux, try creating it from there. You should leave the BIOS boot mode as UEFI (from the OS, it's preferable to use the native BIOS interface rather than using legacy emulation). HTH.

One video with this issue had the boot option selected as legacy and changing it to UEFI fixed it. Should I try change mine to legacy? Switch secure boot off? Not sure whether its related but I did a windows update a few days ago and noticed in the dell support assist software there was some sort of bios update available.
