All these people mocking OP don't get it. Regardless of whether op is "privileged", the fact is when your downtown core, and what was supposed to be the city's crown jewel in Union Ststuon, have turned into a crime and drug ridden shithole, people and businesses will avoid the area and eventually leave for good. Once your tax base goes to hell, crime and general lack of upkeep will perpetuate a cycle of decay. It may not happen overnight, but eventually, after years of this, you have your city looking like Detroit or Baltimore. More on reddit.com

This was a lovely, sad and very humanizing article. That said, it also didn't capture some of the dodgier things I've seen on my journeys, in the daytime, to Union Station. Action needs to be taken, for sure, and I'm not sure what that looks like but it's nice to see an article where folks from a variety of backgrounds are given a voice.

hi everyone! my mom and i taking our first trip out to denver in february and don’t plan on renting a car, and instead of getting an uber from the airport to our hotel downtown, we’re considering just taking a train into union station and walking? is that a good idea? what is y’all’s opinions on union station? would be able to use public transport for most of the trip or are we gonna have to get an uber for most things?

Taking the train to a hotel downtown is an excellent idea. It is much cheaper and, depending on the time of day, possibly faster. As for using public transportation for your trip, that really depends on where you intend to go.

Take the train. Uber will cost you anywhere from $50-$100. Train costs $10. If you don't wanna drag your luggage downtown, then hop on the bus. It's included in your train pass anyway.
