For the most part, what you are asking are general art tips. For a good start, you can get a better understanding of how light and shadow works by getting yourself a desklamp, and moving the light around different objects vaguely shaped like what you want to draw to see how it affects it. I've seen people all paint on 1 layer and i've seen people draw on multiple. I personally do vectors (Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer) where layers don't really matter because everything creates a layer, but i do tend to group stuff in what seems to make sense to me. usually everything related to an objevt is grouped with the object, and the the greater parts of the drawings is bunched together in a bigger group too - but honestly, whatever works for you - Have fun one day, try out different ways of doing it, and see which ones you like, and which ones you never wanna try again. Practice! Sketches! For every good drawing/painting you see there may be dozens, even hundreds of sketches! Study animal anatomy. If you’re looking to draw dinos, look at their skeletons and/or paleoart. I usually draw animals by starting with a “skeleton” framework. I’ll get all the body parts in position first using lines and circles, then begin fleshing it out. I can DM an example of this if you’d like. Thumbnail sketches are a great way to plan out a drawing before you commit to anything big. But most of all, try to have fun! Art should be enjoyable.
