I’m newer to this and wondering where does everyone get their diamond bits either for Dremel or Micromotors from? And what brands?
I’ve noticed even the Dremel branded ones seem to wear out quickly and are just coated with diamond dust rather than having diamond dust throughout the bit so it continues working as it wears out.
Is there a specific term for that type of diamond bit? Searching only brings up the cheap coated kind.

There are three primary types of diamond bits that I have worked with, electroplated, vacuum brazed, and sintered. Electroplated : cheapest and often very short lived, typically 100 grit and up. Even if you always use them wet they rarely last long unless you are making tiny things from very soft stone. Not worth buying for stone carving in my opinion. Vacuum brazed: more durable surface application of diamonds. These are usually coarser diamond and can often be bought on burr sets for carving. The quality varies greatly, but they are useful for soft stones like limestone or marble as long as you do not overheat them. Sintered: diamonds suspended in a metal(often bronze) matrix. Very durable, often available in specific grits. These will carve stone as hard as granite but usually cost a fair bit. While you can overheat these, it takes more punishment and can be used dry if you know what you are doing. Extra: I often use double-cut carbide burrs on stones like marble or softer that I buy from my local independent tool store. They last well and are reasonably priced and readily available. Some of this stuff is available from Neolithic stone tools, or other carving supply places. I am in Canada so my suppliers will be different and McMaster Carr is a pain to get here so I don't know what they have. Use some Google-foo and I am sure you can find sources now that you know the types.
