Dyson V8 Review | Tested & Rated
Dyson V8
This midrange-priced model has ... cordless vacuums, and picks up more pet hair than most in our tests. However, its standard cleaning head can struggle on hardwood, sometimes pushing larger debris rather than picking it up. If that's a concern, consider the V8 Absolute version, which includes Dyson's soft roller head that's much better suited for hard floors... If you mostly vacuum low-pile carpet and typical, everyday debris, the Dyson V8 is a smart and affordable addition to your cleaning routine. This...

Best Dyson Vacuum Cleaners of 2025: I Tested the Best-Known Vacuum Brand to See if It's Worth the Price - CNET
October 24, 2025 - Measured in Air Watts (AW) suction is a measure of how effectively the vacuum can remove dirt from various surfaces. While the Gen5 Detect’s 262 AW excels on embedded carpet dirt, the V8’s 115 AW suffices for small spaces or hard floors. The V11 is designed to handle pet hair without tangling. Dyson

How do I empty and clean a Dyson vacuum?
Emptying a Dyson vacuum is typically a straightforward process. For most models, you usually hold the vacuum over a trash can and press a red lever or button to release the dustbin's base, allowing debris to fall out. To clean your Dyson, start by ensuring it's unplugged or turned off. Then, remove and wash the filters under cold water, gently squeezing until the water runs clear. Allow them to air dry completely for at least 24 hours before reinserting. You should also regularly check and clear any tangled hair or debris from the brush bar in the cleaner head, and for some models, you can det

Are Dyson vacuums good for allergies?
Yes, Dyson vacuums are a good option for those with allergies due to their sealed system and filters. Many Dyson models feature whole-machine HEPA filtration, meaning they are designed to capture 99.97% of microscopic particles as small as 0.3 microns, including common allergens like pollen, dust mites, pet dander and mold spores. This sealed system prevents these trapped allergens from escaping back into the air you breathe, keeping your indoor air cleaner. November 3, 2025 - The V11 and V8 Cyclone have three suction modes to choose from, whereas the older V8 has just two (standard and Boost). Neither offers automatic suction adjustment based on floor type or dirt levels, as you'll find on pricier Dyson stick vacuums.

October 19, 2020 -

Hi, I'm sure this question has been done to death but looking for quick definitive answer. I have a V8 and whilst the direct drive head is great on the carpets, it's not so good on our laminate flooring where it just pushes larger debris around rather than sucking it up. This is messiest part of the house, the living area. Kids, no pets. What head can I purchase, anyone have recommendation? And where from? I'm in rural Australia. Thanks for any help.

r/dyson on Reddit: Best Dyson for hardwoods?
November 22, 2021 -

Hello, What's the best cordless Dyson for hardwoods? I don't need one with any suitability for carpets or rugs, as I don't have any. I see a lot of reccs for the Dyson Absolute and its soft roller head - but I cant's seem to find the Absolute anywhere - I can only find the V10 Animal, where I'm from.

I'm not really ready to shell out for the v15.

What are my best options, and will the V10 Animal still work well for hard wood floors even without the soft roller head?

thank you!

Certified refurbished (make sure it's actually refurbished by Dyson) is also a good way to go - I've seen the V8 for $200. Also, you'll see various versions of the same vacuum, e.g., Animal, Motorhead, Absolute, etc. They are the same machine with different accessories. If you don't have too much hard flooring, no need for the Absolute, which comes with a soft roller brush head that works better than the regular one on hard floors.

r/dyson on Reddit: Dyson V8 vs V11? Recommendations needed!
November 8, 2023 -

Hello! Me and my partner are looking into buying a Dyson Vertical Vacuum, but we are a little confused with all the different versions and what not, so we are looking for some help.

We have a 3 story house, mostly with hardwood flooring, with tiles on the kitchen and on the 3 bathrooms. We also have pets (cats) and no kids.

We were looking at the Dyson v8 Absolute and Origin and at the Dyson V11 Absolute and Fluffly, but we are havimg an hard time understanding what would be the best for us (I think the more I read, the more confused i get ahah)

Also, we are from Portugal, so, some of the models do not exist here, that is why we were looking into those I mentioned before.

Any help would be appreciated!!

EDIT: in terms of the V11, the V11 Fluffy is 480 euros and the V11 Absolute is 600 euros. The attachments that come with each one are a little bit different. Is the 120 euros difference worth it? Will we miss out on something if we go with the fluffy kit?

I'm specifically interested in the soft roller, it looks like it would do a very good job. The price isn't a huge deal, but I also don't want to make the mistake of assuming it's better than the competition just because it's more expensive. I know Shark has a soft roller too, but I don't know if it's as good.

I'm also interested in what people think about soft rollers in general. They look very useful to me, but I've never owned one.

Lots of companies make soft rollers, and as you would assume, they vary from brand to brand. A lot of bias and unproven criticisms of soft rollers float around on here, but the idea is not bad. In fact, many of the well-designed ones are excellent for dusting fine dust and debris off floors, which was their intended purpose. With companies such as Samsung, LG, Dyson, and so forth, they put their soft rollers through rigorous testing to ensure that they do not damage floors or scatter debris. If they really did scratch hard floors and scatter debris to any significant degree, we would certainly be able to source reviews of folks complaining about that, but that has not been the case. There is not some "marketing" conspiracy; they are popular because they are nice attachments to have and they work for their intended purpose. It is not that complicated. I guess if you are sucking razor blades, sand paper, thumb tacks, and so forth into your soft roller, you may scratch your floors. Likewise, if you have delicate flooring, just be mindful of what you use on them period. In any normal environment, a competently designed soft roller is far from a damaging tool for carpet. I have even seen the user on this post who said that soft rollers damage hard floors make a video advocating for a soft roller, but that was just because it was from a brand that he likes. Despite my lack of hate for soft rollers, I dislike the Shark DuoClean designs for a couple reasons. First of all, they tend to break easily. A lot of them have issues with the front rollers not spinning due to the pulley coming loose on top of other issues. Also, although it is nice to not have to change between a carpet head and a hard floor head, the head itself is does not have the "floating" design of some of the more premium hard floor rollers. They are safe on most floors, but I would be careful with delicate flooring and large debris, as that could be an issue. They are not as delicate on flooring as some better and more expensive brands. You should definitely look at the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate , which is better than the Dyson in many ways. For example, every part of the bin can be washed down to the cyclones. It also comes with a charging stand that can be configured in numerous ways, two batteries, a miniature power nozzle, a carpet/universal nozzle, obviously the soft roller, a telescoping wand, and onward. It is one of the more powerful cordless vacuum cleaners on the market and honestly one of the better deals out there. You can look elsewhere for their various models, just make sure you get one with the attachments that you want. I know Costco often has good deals on them. I hope I provided some realistic insight into the world of soft rollers!

The soft roller on my Shark is the only thing I like about it. It works exactly as advertised. That fine dist from cat litter was never touched by any other vacuum, but the shark sort of wipes it up. I'm sure the brush roll is absolutely disgusting, and I wish it could go in the washing machine or something....
