I'm a new seller, so I've probably made several stupid mistakes to get to this point. I just don't know what to do now.
I sold an item worth ~$300 about a month ago, and shipped it off the very next day (around Feb 3rd). I used the shipping label provided by eBay, so my post office didn't provide a receipt for it when I dropped it off (I've seriously never had a problem for this before; ive had plenty of items arrive safely).
Anyway, I did check the tracking number that eBay provided me with and it was still at the "tracking provided" status. and it has stayed in that status until now, over a month later. quite a few of my shipped parcels have this problem, actually. If I put the tracking number in, it just says the number doesn't exist.
Yesterday the buyer messaged me, worried that their parcel hasn't arrived yet, as the estimated delivery date passed. What should I do? should I ask them to wait longer? how would I know if the package has delivered? the buyer could be trying to scam me and I'd never know. and how long should I wait until I can conclude the parcel is lost if it really didn't arrive?
the person does not know how. also i can't figure out how to help the person to find it.

Just a heads up that eBay’s tracking number field is broken. Again. As of 1:58 EST (-5:00 GMT).
Sigh.
Edit: u/WhySoManyDownVote has come to the rescue and pointed out that the eBay app does still work. The issue is related to the UI of the desktop site.

It is working as of 5:51 PM EST.
I’ve never sold anything on eBay before, and I’ve also never shipped anything in the mail either, so this is my first time.
I shipped the item through UPS. I mainly use eBay through my phone, and it has the feature to scan a barcode to get the tracking information instead of manually putting it in. So I scanned the barcode on my shipping receipt and it provided an 18 digit number.
The receipt also has another number that started with 1Z and I feel like I should’ve just used that. Immediately after scanning the barcode and pressing save, it marked the items as shipped so I couldn’t edit it.
I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now other than contact the buyer and tell him about the situation. Is there any way I can edit the tracking information?
