Add the update URL to your available sites:

Window > Preferences > Install/Update > Available Software Sites > Add...

    Name:  Oxygen  
Location:  http://download.eclipse.org/releases/oxygen/

Then tell Eclipse to look for updates: Help > Check for updates.

After the installation, Eclipse will restart and show the old splash screen. Next time you manually stop/start Eclipse it will correctly show the correct splash screen.

You can simply download the newer version, then use "File -> Import -> Install -> From Existing Installation" to add all the plugins you had in your previous installation.

Step 1 Go to Help ---> Install New Software...

Step 2 Try to find "http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/updates" under work with drop down. If you find then select and install all the available updates.

If you can not find then click on Add -> Add Repository. Name: Eclipse Webtools Location: http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/updates Select all available updates and Install them.

It looks like you have the Eclipse for Testers (Jubula) IDE package without Java support or at least you're not in the Java perspective (depending on the perspective, there are different menus). If there is no File > New > Project...: Java > Java Project, do one of the following:

  • Download, install and use an Eclipse Java IDE package, e. g. the Eclipse IDE for Java Developers or the Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers

  • Install the Java Development Tools (JDT) into your Eclipse for Testers IDE:

    1. Help > Install New Software...
    2. Work with: --All Available Sites-- (or Oxygen - http://download.eclipse.org/releases/oxygen)
    3. In the list choose Programming Languages > Eclipse Java Development Tools and click Next >
    4. After finishing the installation and restarting, switch to the Java perspective: Window > Perspective > Open Perspective > Others...: Java
