I do not like their chairs but the consistency of family buying them is predictable. I cannot identify the difference in quality over the year, and if anything thing it may have improved some. Their sofas and loveseats are absolutely better than their old chairs from what I can tell. Worst thing I have seen is I had to tighten some nuts and bolts under one for a family member not too long ago. My father had one that had completely sunk in after like 20 years of use but all the mechanisms etc seemed fine. Luckily steel is relatively cheap to manufacture with. Answer from F-Po on reddit.com

I’ve read through just about every thread in La-Z-Boy on this subreddit and understand that the quality has declined and probably wouldn’t be considered BIFL…but where on earth else can I find a high-backed sofa that isn’t upwards of 10k?!! (I am typing this slouched against my West Elm mid century nightmare. I am 5’10” what was I thinking??) even the higher-backed sofas at Ethan Allen, Pottery Barn et al are lower than the Colby I’ve been eyeing at La-Z-Boy.
I guess I’m curious if anyone else has been happy enough with their La-Z-Boy to feel like the purchase was worth it, even if they know they’ll have to replace it sooner than they would a BIFL-level sofa? Or if anyone has recommendations for an alternate, truly high-backed sofa up to say 4k?

What do you mean by high-backed? I have the flannel birch sofa from Jordan's. I think they discontinued it at Jordan's, but you can find it elsewhere. Bought it in 2014 and it is good as new and I have not been kind to it. 3 moves, one of which required us to shove it through a just big enough hallway. 1 large dog, no couch cover, and the fabric is flawless. Numerous spills, including red wine, and no stains. If this thing caught fire tomorrow, I'd be going out and buying it again. My only complaint was that the dec pillows which came with it had awful stitching on the decorative part, but I covered them pillows with cheap covers from amazon to spice up the couch and now I don't care.
