A few possibilities: 𝟏) The emails you are receiving may visually appear to be legitimate, but in reality the emails are spoofed emails being sent by hackers: A. You need to make sure that these emails truly originated from an authentic Facebook domain (ie: @fb.com , @facebook.com, etc.) B. Check your Facebook settings: In the security section, there is an option to view recently sent official email from Facebook. Just cross-check that with the date and time stamp in your email inbox. 𝟐) Someone is trying to hack your Facebook account remotely: A. You may want to reset your Facebook password. B. Turn-on Facebook 2FA (Two Factor Authentication), making sure not to use Facebook's authenticator but use a 3rd party app such as Google Authenticator or Authy. C. Re-set your email password and if your email service offers 2FA, consider turning on that as well. D. If you have ever used Facebook as a login for another website/app: People are reporting that hackers breached their Instagram to gain access to Facebook. It is a pain, but each and every website should have its own, unique username and password. 𝟑) Facebook may have a serious glitch that is causing this. More on reddit.com

The same crap . I didn't know Facebook was down. It logged me out, so I tried logging in. I get a message about an incorrect password, so I changed my password. I use a password manager, so there's no way I can't remember. In the process of changing the password I got an error message. After the "reset" the new password doesn't work and the old one is outdated (that's the message I got). I have two emails hooked up and I get 8-digit, two different, codes on them. Neither of them works. When I click on the link in the email I get a message: The number you entered doesn't match your code. Please try again By some miracle, after playing with the Yubico key, codes from authentycator, I managed to log in to FB and messenger on my phone. I can't log in on any browser because "I don't know the password." Further, however, I can not change the password, because "I do not know the old one" (the old one as well as the new one does not work). FB again sends me emails with codes - this time already different than the first time, which still do not work. What a mess. More on reddit.com

Firstly don't share these codes. Secondly this is someone else trying to reset your password. They have multiple sources for the SMS since if the first never makes it they send from other numbers for the retry. Chances are some fool out there doesn't know their email address and thinks yours is theirs. More on reddit.com
