New FiiO M9 owner seeking help with setting up player
SPDIF out on M9
I don’t know about the M9, but with the M15 you have to use the supplied short cable to get the coax SPDIF output from the device.

I hate the wheel on the M9. If I try to spin it quickly it doesn't seem to do anything, but if I turn it slowly and methodically it takes forever to make any significant change in the volume because of how it's scaled. And it does seem to have gotten worse over time.

I had a very similar thread (here) comparing the M6, the NW-A55, and a couple of others that were suggested.
In the end, I selected the M6 (writeup here).
Why I went with the M6:
Fiio M7: Too expensive compared to the M6 and the NW-A55
Fiio M9: Way too expensive compared to everything else
Sony NW-A55: Proprietary connector, plus I disliked the lack of options in their Android player software (which is similar to the UI of their dedicated NW series).
I alternated several times between choosing the NW-A55 and the M6, but in the end, I decided on the M6 because:
-
Some friends have Fiios, and recommend them
-
Being Android, the M6 allows a choice of player software and more control, and I really like the Musicolet player interface on Android
The NW-A55 has the benefit of far superior battery life (four times), but has a proprietary connector, which is a pain. The M6 only runs for 10-12 hours on a charge, but it charges via USB C, so it's easy to find a charger if you need one.
The only complaint most people have with the M6 is the poor implementation of the streaming options like Tidal or Spotify, but I don't care about that, and if you're considering the NW-A55 or M7, you don't either.
