I've always used Foobar2000 on Windows, and it's perfect. But what player would you use on Mac? Or Android?

Factsheet
Foobar2000 on Windows has always been my trusted workhorse. But recently I've started thinking how much nicer is my work laptop, which is a Mac - faster in every way than my old Windows system, and just more comfortable to use. And since I've confirmed a while ago that my DAC works fine with Android, I keep thinking how even more nice it would be to just use a smartphone instead of a laptop.
A bit of context. I've all my files on a Linux fileserver. If they were downloaded, they are in whatever format they originally came in. If they are ripped from CDs or higher quality sources, they are in both FLAC and MP3 formats. They are available as a Windows share (via Samba), via a UPnP server (Mediatomb), FTP - and I could add any protocol I want.
My goal is to feed the DAC the exact same audio stream that's in the FLAC files, unchanged. Foobar2000 does that just fine on Windows.
Are you aware of any Mac player that I could trust the same way? I've messed around with VLC, and it seems quite okay, but I'm never sure of the meaning of the volume slider in VLC, I've seen it claim "200%" volume level in some cases, and that would just not make sense in an all-digital setup.
On Android I've used the Bubble UPnP app before, it can stream files from the UPnP server, and seems to work okay. I presume I should turn the volume all the way up when the DAC is plugged in. Not sure what else to worry about on Android - other than the random chirps from email apps and the antisocial media.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
