I read an article in the new Yorker that said Egyptian cotton is just like regular cotton because it has been so badly bred and farmed anymore (for at least the last 15 years). This would explain why it seems there isn't much difference in quality. So it is sort of false advertising. I bought a random towel at a Home Goods store called Feather Touch and it to this day is an anomaly of a cotton fabric and I suspect this is made from real long staple cotton. I cannot find a thing like it anywhere and the brand seems to be defunct. It is like a silky microfiber. I bought it in 2016 or 2017 which might be due to supplies of actual long staple cotton still being available. Leave it to humans to ruin something amazing from nature. More on reddit.com

I haven’t tried the St Geneve Giza, but I have the st Geneve avorio pillowcases and they’re lovely (but they are silk). I love the Sferra Giza sateen. We also have the Finna, which is nice, but I prefer the Giza sateen. I haven’t had the chance to try the Matouk gatsby, but I’ve heard good things. Neither of the Giza 45 fabrications are heavy at all. I’ve been using Giza 45 percale for years now. It’s the smoothest, lightest, softest fabric. I’m a hot sleeper. Once you sleep on either it would be hard to go back to something lesser. More on reddit.com

Only you can decide if it’s worth it. I have some bedding from an Italian mill that was custom made but it’s linen and there’s no doubt they are good but I still prefer the made to order Linen sheets I have from an Irish mill as the weave is far superior but the cost was higher. If you like the 45s then go for it.
