October 22, 2021 - Our nationwide 5G network is expanding over the coming months to more areas across the US, with increased coverage in rural areas where 5G coverage has traditionally been low. As an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator), this boost is due to and is in line with partner carrier expansions. Google Fi historically leverages T-Mobile and Sprint, as well as US Cellular, but that’s now technically down to two with the merger.

Accessing 5G with google fi data only sim card I am not able to get 5G connectivity on my 2021 ipad pro - It seems that my Google Fi data only sim is still stuck on a 4G LTE network. Reddit ruins formatting (so you might be confused trying the codes in the other responses), so go into phone dialer and type star pound star pound 4636 pound star pound star. If you did it right, the phone will instantly load a menu called Testing. Select Phone Information. Go to Set Preferred Network Type. Note that "NR" is 5G. Choose an option without NR. If you're like me, on Fi, the right option is LTE/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA

I have 5G home internet with T-Mobile. Before I switched to Fi, I still had T-Mobile prepaid too and speed on TMo prepaid aligns with home internet pretty much. Wasn’t too shabby in rural Idaho but Fi is exceptional. I know they use the same service but I constantly get better 5g speed on Fi.
For some reason it shows T-Mobile as a provider but it’s Fi. TMo gets about down 250-300 up 25-40
Overall, very happy. Used Fi customer service chat few times too, no hiccups (what everyone was concerned about)

Not in Atlanta. I turned my 5g off and get much better reception with just LTE.

When it works... A block in every direction from my house it says full bars 5G, but half the time it can't even load basic Assistant voice commands or directions. I've taken to starting the navigation before I leave my home WiFi.
