Download & install this extension - Search by Image: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/search-by-image/cnojnbdhbhnkbcieeekonklommdnndci?hl=en Then go to extension settings and uncheck everything (on the left) except Google Images. This makes it one-click from the context menu to search by image. There is also the chrome flag chrome://flags/#enable-lens-standalone but google may remove it in the future, whereas the extension way should keep working. More on reddit.com

Yes and no — there is a subtle difference. Google Lens will identify objects, read text, scan barcodes, and more if you photograph that object. You’ll then get search results based on what it thinks it is. But it also finds visually similar images and has some of the reverse image search features.

Not entirely. It depends on the type of image, how clear it is, and how much unique detail there is. The more unique the image, the more chance Google will find the exact one. They didn't replace it, they added Google Lens' features. Once the Google Lens results open you have the choice to search for similar items within the photo, extract text from the photo, translate text in the photo, or find the original source image. That last one is the "image search" to which you refer. So now you have 4 different things you can do to an image instead of just 1.
