Basically they should be fine, but if you need a bit more survivability to them you can just swap some traits or utility skills out and go with that. Hello! I'm a new player (just started like 4 days ago) and a level 41 necro. I know I'm not level 80 yet, but I plan to take this game seriously so much so that I have already bought the expansions. I played GW1 way back and took a long break from MMOs after that, but I still really love the lore of GW.
I'm planning to get an exotic gear first once I hit level 80. I saw on metabattle that there are specific builds for open world, fractals/dungeons, and raids. These are the content that I would love to get into. But does this mean I have to get three separate gears/armors for each game mode?
tl;dr, Ultimately, I would like to know if there is a good starter gear and build for necro that can fit both open world and fractals/dungeons. For example, would Reaper Power DPS be also good for open world solo & roaming despite being designed for fractals & raids?

Focusing solely on your six armor slots... Get a cheap Berserker's set as your entry level set for power builds. I haven't been playing GW2 for a long time (only played it a little bit, when it first came out), and have recently started playing, 1 month i think (currently, level 29). So i have decided to start playing seriously, and necromancer always seemed something that would fit my play style. So i am running for the level 80 Norn necromancer!
So i caught an interest for armor sets, and started looking for what armor set i would head for as a Condition/Vitality necro, and couldn't really decide what would fit my play style the most? And also if their are any low level armor sets? since i don't really like the look of the armor you buy from the market on a Norn. But the level 80 armor sets looks awesome!
This is also my first post, so hope it catches some interest!

For a necromancer focusing on condition damage, there are five stat sets: Carrion (power/vitality/cond dmg). Crafted or Dungeons (SE/CoF), run CoF and craft/buy some with the gold you make. Rabid (precision/toughness/cond dmg). Can be bought with karma in Orr, accessories can also be bought for karma, it might be a good idea to pick up the accessaries there and run TA for the armour. Rampager (power/precision/cond dmg). Crafted or run TA/CoF/AC. Shaman (vitality/healing/cond dmg). CM seems to be the only place. Only accessories are named items I believe. Apothecary (healing/toughness/cond dmg). Crafted only, and too expensive for most budgets. Rabid is the most popular for a necro, but Rampager is good too for a power/cond dmg hybrid, which a necro does really well. Carrion is probably less desirable than those two, since there is no precision and necros already have a high health pool.

I think the most obvious choice would be the arah dungeon set. Perhaps combined with final rest (but again - pretty generic) I have a sylvari necro and am still waiting for a dark dye to drop to go with a decayed plant theme (she's wearing sylvari cultural armor tier 1) EDIT: check out this site - http://www.gw2armorgallery.com/
